The Alabama Forestry Commission has issued a Fire Danger Advisory for our area, effective immediately through Sunday night, March 29th

We are looking at a "perfect storm" of low humidity, dry fuels, and higher winds. In these conditions, you don’t need a lightning strike to start a disaster—a single spark from a dragging trailer chain, discarded cigarette an unattended grill, fire pit, etc., causing fast-moving wildfires that can not only destroy property and forests but also threaten the lives of citizens and endanger firefighters.

What you need to know to be safe:

No Outdoor Burning: brush piles, campfires or fire pits. If it has a flame, don't light it.

Equipment Check: If you’re hauling a trailer around town, make sure your chains are secured and not dragging. Those sparks can cause dry grass to catch fire.

Watch Where You Park: Avoid parking vehicles in tall, dry grass. Your exhaust system is hot enough to ignite a fire in seconds.

The entire area is now under a level 3 of 5 risk for tonight, for damaging winds up to 70 mph, large hail up to quarter size, and tornadoes as the line of storms moves through, with an additional threat of scattered storms that may become supercells in the southeastern third of the area.

These storms will move through at night. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and ways to wake up. Have a plan in place before you go to sleep so you don't have to figure it out waking up with a watch and/or warning. And take shelter regardless of what warning is issued.
Our storm shelter will be open, ots located behind the soccer fields at 514 Park Ave.
