Located within the CCHS Museum & Library Headquarters building, the Columbia County Historical Society Library holds volumes on Columbia County and New York State history, genealogy, architecture, and decorative arts as well as manuscripts and photographs. In this archive are books, maps, architectural drawings, diaries, personal correspondence, scrap books, broadsides, business records, pamphlets, programs, ephemera, photographic prints, glass and film negatives, cased images, and albums. For more information about what type of material you will likely find in the collection: http://www.cchsny.org/library-reading-room.html Shelved books and genealogical materials are available without an appointment. For access to other resources such as maps and the historic manuscript and photograph collections, an appointment is required. This non-circulating library is open to the public for research during regular museum hours. Family history research materials at the library include: Family Surname Files for over 1500 surnames. These contain correspondence with researchers, newspaper clippings, family group sheets, and other miscellaneous information. Index to deaths, marriages, and a few births from county newspapers, c1800 - c1930 containing approx 37,200 names. Not all extant newspapers are covered, and the specific newspaper is not always indicated. Copies of over 200 family genealogies, both published and unpublished. Transcriptions of over 75 church records, and over 200 cemetery records. Published reference books on local and family history.
