School buses are the safest form of transportation for our students. But keeping our kids safe is a team effort!

When you see flashing lights or a stop sign on a bus, remember these rules:
🛣️ On a 2-lane road? EVERYONE stops!
🛣️ 3+ lanes, turn lane, or median? If you’re heading the same way as the bus, hit the brakes!

Remember, a moment of patience could save a life. Let’s make this school year the safest one yet!

Looking at applying for a first-time driver license this fall? Starting Nov. 1, first-time drivers under age 25 will need to complete a work zone and first responder safety course to get their license. This free course will be available to everyone on Sept. 1.

🐔 Why did the chicken cross the road? More importantly, HOW?

At Public Health Seattle-King County, our chickens know the secret: always stay alert when crossing the road! 👀

Fun fact: A crosswalk exists wherever 2 roads meet, even without markings. (Yes! You heard that right!)🤯

Road safety tips for everyone:
🧠 Stay alert
🚫 Drive, walk, roll sober
🐌 Slow down
🦺 Gear up (seatbelts & protective wear)

Our community partners, Mujer al Volante, Superación Constante and Mission Africa - Auburn, have been crucial partners in helping reduce injuries and deaths along an 11-mile corridor through Renton, Kent, Auburn, and unincorporated King County.

The “Corridor Project” combined multiple strategies designed to improve safety outcomes along the corridor, including public education campaigns, youth-focused safety programs, high visibility enforcement, and grant programs for community-based organizations.

Mujer al Volante and Mission Africa reached thousands of residents with multilingual, culturally rooted traffic safety education—from women centered driver training to teen and family workshops. Their outreach is helping shift driving behaviors across South King County.

While we cannot attribute changes to any single effort, early data is encouraging. Driving behavior data suggests a 17% reduction in driving at speeds of more than 40 mph along the 140th Avenue Southeast/132nd Avenue Southeast corridor for Jan-July 2026 compared to the same period in 2024.
We’re so grateful for these two grantees leading the way toward safer streets for everyone. 🙌
