A press release from our friends at Appalachian Assistive Technology Loan Fund (AATLF).

Please join us in welcoming Laura A. White-Brown, the first Executive Director of AATLF!

A native of Morehead, Kentucky, Laura officially assumed the role on June 1, 2026. Her extensive experience serving her community and the Appalachian region makes her well-suited to lead AATLF during this exciting period of growth.

Among her many accomplishments, Laura was elected as the first female and youngest mayor of Morehead, Kentucky. She has also worked with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service on nutrition programs, earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Public Administration.

The AATLF Board and PATF are excited to welcome Laura and look forward to supporting AATLF’s continued growth and success as it transitions into a stand-alone nonprofit federal CDFI and no longer a subsidiary of PATF beginning July 1, 2026.

We had a great time at the following events and appreciated the opportunity to speak with the community about PATF’s programs.

On May 16th, we exhibited at the Wynnefield Library 5th Annual Autism 365 Resource Fair in West Philadelphia. The event focused on the fact that we all think differently. The library is making every effort to extend valuable information and resources to families and people on the autism spectrum.

On May 19th, we had the pleasure of attending and presenting at the Mental Health and Wellness Conference hosted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness. PATF CEO Will Hall presented alongside Diana Fishlock from the PA Treasurer’s Office on financial wellness and PA ABLE.

On May 20th, we exhibited at the Philadelphia Coordinated Health Care’s Annual Health Fair at Rivers Casino. This year’s theme was “Let Health Care Ring” in honor of the United States’ 250th anniversary. We were one of many exhibitors, and we had a great time speaking with attendees and other providers!

We wish everyone a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend. Our office will be closed from 1 PM today until Tuesday.

PATF has the pleasure of attending the third Annual Veterans and Community Partner Wellness Summit on May 28th at Marywood University.

Wendy, PATF’s Marketing and Outreach Director, will be presenting about our programs, and we will also have a table that you can stop by and learn more about us and how our services can assist veterans. The summit will bring together veterans, family members, healthcare professionals, community organizations, and nonprofit organizations to strengthen collaboration, expand resources for veterans, and explore topics focused on veterans’ wellness, mental health, and financial wellness.

PATF was busy in the community yesterday! We attended two different events to discuss our programs and services with attendees and other providers.

The first event was the AAC Expo 2026: Advancing Access, Expanding Communication, Empowering Voices located in Schuylkill Haven and hosted by Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 and Schuylkill Haven Area School District. The event focused on communication assistive technology for school age people. We shared information about our loan programs and our funding guide and how they can be resources for people looking to acquire these devices.

The second event was State Rep. Tim Brennan and Sen. Steve Santarsiero’s 3rd Annual Disability Resource Fair. We had the opportunity to speak with attendees and other professionals about our available resources, such as our financial loans, information and assistance, and financial education. Everyone also had the pleasure of interacting with the therapy dogs from Roxy Therapy Dogs!

We enjoyed attending both of these events.

We also thank Jennifer of Butterfly Kisses Face Painting for bringing fun and creativity to the event. Attendees enjoyed a Crayola coloring station, games, raffle baskets, free blood pressure checks and vision screenings, and lunch provided by Couchpota.doh Kitchen, made possible thanks to our sponsors, Highmark Wholecare, AmeriHealth Caritas, and Wellkids by PA Health & Wellness.
