Earlier this afternoon officers of Kingfisher PD spoke with a property owner and their potential renter about an attempted scam.

The renter had seen a residence listed for rent on a popular social media site. They called the number and spoke with the supposed property owner who gave the dollar amount of the required deposit of $900.00, then asked that the money be transferred to them thru one of the many money wiring platforms available. Luckily this person chose to inspect the property before agreeing to send any money. While there, they noticed the phone number on the sign being different from the ad they had answered and felt something was off.

They called the number off the sign and spoke with the actual property owner who wanted to make the report in hopes of warning others who may be seeking a rental home in the Kingfisher area.

The property owner had listed the home on a social media site but not the one in which the renter saw it listed. Their ad was copied and reposted with fraudulent contact info.
