Kingman Airport

Kingman Airport The Kingman Municipal Airport & Industrial Park is an exciting place with large growth potential!

The Kingman Army Airfield, which serves today as the Kingman Airport and Industrial Park (IGM) was founded at the beginning of WWII as one of the nation largest aerial gunnery training bases. After the war, the Kingman Airfield served as one of the largest reclamation sites for obsolete military aircraft. Today, the airport spans 4,000 acres and has two active runways; the primary runway is just u

nder 7,000 feet in length by 150-feet wide, and the secondary runway is also just under 7,000 feet in length by 75-feet wide. There are approximately 150 general aviation operators and/or individual aircraft owners at the airport along with 250 aircraft in storage. The aircraft in storage are in surplus of market demands with most of them maintained in airworthy condition. In addition to providing aircraft rental, maintenance, and fueling services, Kingman Airport also provides air ambulance services, supports the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) aviation operations, and services the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department aviation section. The fully developed Airport Industrial Park attracts manufacturers with reasonable land costs and the opportunity to build regional trade and service centers. This separate sector of the City of Kingman works closely with the Airport General Manager to ensure the airport and industrial park remain an integral and vital part of the local economy.

On October 26th students from Kingman High School, Lee Williams High School and the Positive Alternative Campus participated in Manufacturing Day. They visited different businesses throughout the Kingman Airport & Industrial Park and gained an understanding of some of the careers and job opportunities within our community. Some of the businesses are industry leaders and they were Cantex, Insteel, Allo, Lomanco, Straube's Aircraft, Brackett Aero Filters, and American Woodmark.

Kingman Airport had a visit today of the same type of plane Amelia Earhart flew, which is an Avro-Avian Biplane. There are only nine of its kind in the world, and the one here today is the only one still flying. I spoke to pilot Andrew King who is flying down Route 66 from Amarillo to Barstow with a final destination to a private airport near Sacramento to its new owner. According to the pilot, the new owner recreated and completed Earhart’s world record attempt in 1997.
