🏡 Looking for a Great Place to Land? Kingman may be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

The City of Kingman was recently awarded the Home in the Heartland Grant through the Kansas State Treasurer’s Office, allowing us to partner with MakeMyMove to help attract new residents to our community.

Through this initiative, Kingman is showcasing what makes rural Kansas special:
✔️ Affordable living
✔️ Small-town connections
✔️ Great schools and community amenities
✔️ Opportunities to grow, work, and belong
✔️ Incentives for qualifying participants, including a free residential lot to build a home and financial assistance to help with relocation costs

This program is also a valuable workforce recruitment tool for local employers. Businesses in Kingman can utilize MakeMyMove to help attract talent, connect with potential employees considering relocation, and showcase the advantages of living and working in our community.

Whether you’re looking for a slower pace, stronger community connections, or simply a fresh start, Kingman is a great place to land. ✈️

If you know someone looking for a change, encourage them to check out Kingman on MakeMyMove!

Supporting local business doesn’t always look the same.

Sometimes it’s grabbing dinner downtown.
Sometimes it’s hiring a local contractor.
Sometimes it’s choosing the hometown option even if it’s not the cheapest or fastest.

But it can also look like something simpler.

It can look like leaving a Google review.
It can look like sharing a post.
It can look like recommending a business when someone asks for advice.
It can look like giving grace when a small shop has a busy day.

In a small community, word-of-mouth matters. Online reviews matter. Engagement matters. One thoughtful comment or five-star review can influence more customers than we realize.

Supporting local isn’t one big grand gesture.
It’s a series of small, intentional choices.

Every time someone opens a local business in your town, half the people say “I hope they make it” and the other half say “they’re crazy for trying.”

But here’s what I’ve learned, when people actually show up, these businesses do make it.

The regulars who come in every week. The people who leave Google reviews. The ones who tell their friends. The customers who become ambassadors.

Local businesses don’t fail because people don’t care. They succeed because enough people do.

If you want local businesses in your town, be the person who shows up opening day. Leave the review. Tell your friends. Become a regular.

Supporting local isn’t just shopping local. It’s being an active participant in someone’s dream.

Your town has people willing to take the risk and open businesses.

Make sure they know you’ve got their back.

✨ A great new addition to downtown Kingman ✨

The bold KINGMAN sign on the Chalk Building is now up and looking sharp.

Thank you to building owner Scott Mueller for investing in his property and in our downtown. The project was partially funded through the SIGNS Grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce — a program designed to help rural communities strengthen visibility and identity.

This signage project was funded alongside the recent marquee repair at the Kingman Historic Theatre — both supported through the SIGNS program.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to pursue tools like this that bring state resources home to Kingman and support private investment along the way.

Strategic improvements like these enhance visibility, support local businesses, and contribute to long-term downtown vitality.
