**Kingman Police Department Addresses Community Questions Regarding Flock Cameras**

The Kingman Police Department has received several questions and concerns from members of our community regarding the use of Flock cameras.

We want to be clear: The Kingman Police Department does not use Flock cameras, and there are currently no plans for the department to implement Flock cameras.

We understand why the use of this technology has generated questions and concern. License plate reader (LPR) technology can provide law enforcement with a valuable tool to help identify vehicles associated with crimes, locate stolen vehicles, and assist with criminal investigations. At the same time, technology that collects and stores information about where vehicles are traveling raises legitimate questions about privacy, access to information, data retention, and appropriate use.

As a police department, we believe public safety and public trust must go hand in hand. Technology should be used responsibly, transparently, and with appropriate safeguards to protect the rights and privacy of the community we serve.

What are Flock cameras?

Flock cameras are automated license plate reader systems that use cameras and technology to capture information about passing vehicles. Depending on the system and its configuration, information may include a vehicle’s license plate number, make, model, color, and other identifying characteristics.

These systems are used by law enforcement agencies and other organizations throughout the country. While they can provide investigative and public safety benefits, we also recognize that their use requires thoughtful consideration of privacy and civil liberties.

For the residents of Kingman, our position is straightforward: KPD does not have Flock cameras and has no current plans to deploy them.

We appreciate the members of our community who have reached out with questions and who remain engaged in conversations about public safety, privacy, and the appropriate use of technology. Those conversations are important, and we will continue to be transparent with our community about the tools and technology used by the Kingman Police Department.

The Kingman Police Department, in conjunction with the Western AZ DUI Task Force, will be out providing extra patrol for Kingman’s First Friday event this week on August 7th. Before you head downtown to celebrate, decide and designate a sober driver to bring you home.

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety provided the Kingman Police Department with additional grant funding for overtime to have officers assigned for enforcement and detection during times where the likelihood of impaired drivers is increased, usually around holidays and community celebrations.

The Kingman Police Department wants to remind those that plan to use an impairing substance or choose to drink alcoholic beverages to use a designated driver, taxi or rideshare. If you suspect an impaired driver please contact law enforcement.

As you head downtown to the festivities, help us spread the word: Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving! Drive High, Get a DUI!

Each year, the Patriot Tour carries a single American flag on a 125-day journey through all 50 continental states. During this journey, the flag is passed from one group of riders to the next, honoring America's past, present, and fallen military members while raising awareness and support for wounded veterans.

The Kingman Police Department was proud to assist the Arizona Nation of Patriots as they traveled through Kingman to their next destination.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey.

One flag. One nation. Countless Americans united in honoring those who have served. 🇺🇸
