TRF-KB’s “AC⚡️DC” Claims Softball Crown! 👑

It’s been a minute (if ever) that we’ve featured any intramural sporting news, especially any news about TRF-KB Teams.

Quite frankly, until last weekend, we’re not sure when TRF-KB had any teams (softball, basketball, flag football, golf etc.,?) competing in the MWR Kings Bay intramural leagues.

A quick search, however, did yield one softball photo from 2014 (posted below), but we think the pic was taken at the annual TRF-KB BBQ Cook-off that year.

We’ve heard rumors of TRF-KB intramural sports domination in years gone by, and we’ve eyed 👀 a few old dust-dominated trophies 🏆 still enshrined in some TRF-KB buildings, but until last weekend, TRF-KB had been absent and a nonfactor in intramural sports … As far as we know.

In 2026, and after years of being dormant, TRF-KB softball domination appears to be on the way back! Maybe?

Finishing third during the regular season while posting a respectable 8-2-1 record, athletes from TRF-KB Shops 51A, 31D, 31F and 06B banded together May 16 on Team “AC⚡️DC” to capture the season-ending MWR intramural softball tournament title.

After cruising past “USS FLORIDA” by a score of 15-2 in the semi-final contest, our rock’in “band” of AC⚡️DC heroes held off “Spare Parts” in the tournament finale, 17-12, to claim the championship hardware! 🏆 CONGRATULATIONS, AC⚡️DC! 🥎

We would love to hear more stories or see photos from past TRF-KB intramural sports history and successes. ⚡️ 🔱

Congrats & Thanks for Your Valuable Support!

TRF-KB recently bid a fond farewell to two members of its leadership team, but not before they were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the command’s mission.

Lt. Cmdr. Bryan Caldon was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for serving as the Project Superintendent during the USS WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN 736) Extended Refit Period (ERP), and as the Military Deputy Project Superintendent for the USS MARYLAND (SSBN 738) ERP. He also served as the TRF-KB Assistant Production Management Assistant (PMA) during his tour at TRF-KB that spanned from April 2023 to May 2026.

Additionally, Lt. Cmdr. Richard Matter II received the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal for meritorious service while serving as a TRF-KB Division Head from August 2024 to May 2026. He demonstrated exceptional leadership by managing 115 Sailors and Civilians in providing Waterfront support to home-ported submarines and tenant commands; and providing vital services in maintaining $48 million of key infrastructure and equipment throughout the TRF-KB Industrial Complex.

We wish you both “Fair Winds & Following Seas” and best of luck in your next assignment! 🔱

USSTRATCOM Presents Omaha Trophy to USS Maryland

U.S. Navy Adm. Rich Correll, commander, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), recently presented the prestigious 2025 Omaha Trophy to the crews of USS Maryland (SSBN 738) during a ceremony at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

Sponsored by USSTRATCOM and the Strategic Command Consultation Committee, the Omaha Trophy is awarded annually to elite military units that demonstrate the highest performance standards in strategic deterrence. BRAVO ZULU USS Maryland (SSBN 738)!

Adm. Correll also stopped by the TRF-KB Dry Dock where he received an update on COLUMBIA preparations and current waterfront & dry dock operations. 🔱 Submarine Group Ten

ICYMI… COMSUBGRU TEN Visits TRF-KB

Rear Adm. Bob Wirth, Commander, Submarine Group Ten, stopped by TRF-KB in late April where he spoke to TRF-KB & NRMD Sailors during an “All Hands” formation. He also recognized a couple of Sailors for their superior performance.

The Admiral presented a command coin to PS2 Adriana Dumenigo-Perez (TRF-KB) who took charge of a struggling CPPA program and transformed it into a high-performing success. She serves as the subject matter expert for all things pay related, consistently delivering accurate guidance and dependable leadership. She has been described as a “Rock Star”!

MMN1(SS) John Seay (NRMD) also received a coin for his performance as a senior mechanic and ALPO in Shop 38N (Nuclear Production) that has 16 military personnel and four civilians assigned. He is also the Command Career Counselor for NRMD (90 Sailors) and has been “crushing” (it’s a good thing) all the military retention and admin duties for NRMD.

Rear Admiral Wirth then delivered a few brief remarks before opening up for questions and/or comments from the Sailors. 🔱

BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Historic Signing Day for TRF-KB!

TRF-KB got off to a great start Monday morning (May 18, 2026) by signing three “first-round draft picks” onto our Team…

And later on Monday evening, TRF-KB capped off the historic day by signing nine (9) “5-star”⭐ Camden County High School (CCHS) seniors into our acclaimed Apprenticeship Program during a National SkillsUSA signing event at the high school. (Note: TRF-KB officials declined to speak about any NIL offers but said they were ecstatic about the prospect of keeping the top high school talent at home 😁).

Beaming with pride, one of the primary organizers of the event spoke about the success of the CTAE programs she helps manage (coach) and predicts great things in the future with the TRF-KB alliance.

“The partnership we have with TRF-KB represents exactly what the CCHS CTAE programs are designed to do – connect students with real-world career opportunities and create a direct pathway from the classroom to the workforce,” said Samantha Dixon, the Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator at CCHS. “Seeing our students officially sign into careers with TRF-KB is a huge milestone for both organizations, and we look forward to continuing to grow this partnership and expand opportunities for future Wildcats!”

We’ll share more info and photos during the week from this significant signing day at CCHS as we focus on training new apprentices while also continuing to seek experienced skilled professionals to complement our elite workforce at the U.S. Navy’s premiere maintenance facility! 🔱 Camden County High School Camden County Schools
