As another school year comes to an end, the Kingsford Public Safety Department would like to wish all students a fun, relaxing, and safe summer break!

Whether you’re spending time with family, swimming, biking, traveling, or enjoying the outdoors, remember to make safety a priority. Always wear your helmet when riding bikes, buckle up in vehicles, stay hydrated during hot weather, and never swim without adult supervision.

We hope everyone enjoys the well-deserved break, makes great memories, and returns to school refreshed and ready for a new year.

Have a safe and wonderful summer, Flivvers! ☀️🚴🏊🌳

🚨 Public Advisory 🚨

Kingsford Public Safety would like to advise residents the smoke visible in the area today is the result of a prescribed burn being conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in the Spread Eagle, Wisconsin area.

Prescribed burns are carefully planned and monitored to help manage vegetation, reduce wildfire risks, and improve wildlife habitat. Depending on weather and wind conditions, smoke may be noticeable in and around the Kingsford area.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

🦌 NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC 🦌

It is that time of year when newborn fawns are being seen throughout our community. If you come across a fawn lying alone, please do not touch, move, or disturb it.

Mother deer will often leave their fawns hidden for long periods of time while they search for food nearby. This is completely normal behavior, and in most cases the mother will return once people leave the area.

Even if the fawn appears to be alone, it is usually not abandoned. Keeping your distance gives the fawn the best chance of survival.

Please also keep pets away from wildlife and remind children to observe from a safe distance.

Thank you for helping protect our local wildlife!

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have protected the freedoms we enjoy every day.

This Memorial Day, the Kingsford Public Safety Department asks our community to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday and to honor those who never made it home.

We are forever grateful to our fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward.

Please celebrate safely and responsibly this holiday weekend.

🇺🇸 Never Forgotten. Always Honored. 🇺🇸

Today, Officer Woodward and K9 Scout had the opportunity to visit Woodland Elementary and give a presentation to the 2nd graders about police work, K9 training, and how Scout helps keep the community safe. The students loved learning about Scout’s skills, seeing demonstrations, and asking great questions!

SRO Brouillette stepped up and put on the bite sleeve so Scout could show the students how a trained police K9 safely performs apprehension work. The demonstration was a huge hit and gave the kids a hands-on look at the teamwork and trust between K9 officers and their partners.

Thank you to Woodland Elementary for having us and to the students for being such an awesome audience

Kingsford Public Safety would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to the Breitung Township Schools administration for their continued commitment to student safety. It means a lot to our community to see the strong partnership and communication between the school leadership and Kingsford Public Safety.

Working together like this helps create a safer, more secure environment for our kids to learn and grow, and that doesn’t go unnoticed. Thank you for being proactive, responsive, and dedicated to protecting our students every single day.

---MESSAGE FROM BTS---

3:30pm - May 6, 2026

Dear BTS Parent(s) or Guardian(s):

On the morning of May 6, school administration was notified of an off-campus incident occurring in the community. The district prioritized the safety of students and staff by initiating a Secure Action out of an abundance of caution and under the guidance of our School Resource Officers and Kingsford Public Safety.

During the Secure Action:
All exterior doors were locked to secure the physical facilities.
No individuals were permitted to enter or leave the buildings.
Students and staff remained safely inside, where classes and indoor activities continued as scheduled.

Resolution
Following the successful resolution of the off-campus situation by local law enforcement, the Secure Action was lifted.
-Dismissal: All end-of-day dismissal procedures proceeded as normal.
-Activities: All after-school activities continued as originally scheduled.

Community Partners and Appreciation
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the organizations that assisted in maintaining a secure environment for our school community:
-Kingsford Public Safety, Iron Mountain Police Department, the Dickinson County -Sheriff’s Department, and the Michigan State Police for their swift assistance and for providing an extra layer of security.
-The Dickinson-Iron Technical Education Center for their cooperation and assistance.
-Schilleman Bus Service for their help and readiness to address potential transportation issues regarding our students at the tech center.

We appreciate the patience, cooperation, and trust demonstrated by our parents and guardians throughout the day as we worked to keep our students and staff safe.

Sincerely,
The BTS Communication Team
