I forgot the adoption decree & we had to turn the van around.

She forgot her new birth certificate & we had to turn around again.

Realized the proof of residency had the wrong name, had to turn around one more time.

So we called the DMV & they told us if we were more than 30 minutes late our appointment gets cancelled.

Arrived 28 minutes late, which she convinced me was actually 2 minutes early.

8/22/22 adoption decree issued.

✔️ New birth certificate
✔️ New social
✔️ Finally new license.

3/27/23 she is completely & fully a Floro in the eyes of Texas.

Welcome to our hot mess express—like mother like daughter.

“To all the foster kids out there, don’t give up just because your 1st, 5th & 10th home didn’t work out.

Don’t give up just because it’s scary or hard.

Don’t give up because you think you don’t deserve a family, because YOU DO.

Don’t give up your high school diploma just because only 1 in 4 foster kids graduate. I was that 1.
Don’t give up on your college career just because only 3% get accepted/graduate. I was part of that 3%.

Don’t cave into drugs and alcohol like I did, but if you do, get help, like I did. It is NOT a healthy coping mechanism.

If you’re being abused in your foster home mentally, physically, or sexually, SPEAK UP.

Don’t let the label of “foster kid” define& your purpose. Being a foster kid is ONLY a PART of your story. Being a foster kid will NOT be your final chapter.

Don’t use being a “foster kid” as a crutch or excuse to not succeed and live a quality life.

My journey in the foster system started when I was just 4 years old & continued until I was just shy of my 18th birthday.

For 4,842 days, I was tossed from home to home, family to family, city to city, school to school, making friends and losing friends but 12 foster homes, 3 grouphomes, 9 schools, 6 cities/towns, and 5 case works later, I got lucky and was adopted.

Thank you to Dan & Amanda Ficca for giving a kid in the system a second chance at life. Without you I would have never been where I am today.

From a former kid in the system to any and all current kids in the system, everything will be alright, just breathe, fight, and sit tight.” -Jack Violet Marie

If you’ve read or watched the news in recent months, you know that numerous children and youth in the custody of the state of Tennessee will be sleeping on office floors tonight. Unable to be with the ones they love most, unable to to experience the comfort and security of waking up in a home with nurturing and supportive caregivers, unable to receive the services they desperately need to help them to begin processing the trauma they have experienced. Is this what we as child welfare workers and community members want for our most vulnerable population? Absolutely not. We want our children to feel secure, stable, heard, understood, loved, and cared for. Unfortunately, this is not how countless children across the state are feeling at this moment.

We still believe there is hope for these children. And that hope may be YOU. Foster parents offer stability and comfort in times of uncertainty and despair, a listening ear to ensure our children know their voices are heard, and a love that both you and they will carry across a lifetime.

If you have ever considered making a difference in the life of a child by becoming a foster parent, please contact me via FB messenger, email - [email protected], or by phone at 423-224-1043. There is no obligation, just reach out to learn more about how YOU could be the reason a child knows what hope and love looks like.

Thank you to our foster parents for the sacrifices you make daily to love, support, and hold space for our children.
