A New Chapter Begins for Engine 2

Today marks an exciting milestone for the Kingston Springs Fire Department as we officially send Engine 2 off for its long-awaited refurbishment!

Over the next several months, this Engine will undergo a complete overhaul that will extend its service life, improve firefighter safety, enhance reliability, and ensure it continues to protect our community for many years to come.

It will return as a modernized apparatus, ready to continue serving the citizens of Kingston Springs.

This project represents a significant investment in public safety and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Refurbishing our apparatus allows us to provide our firefighters with safer, more dependable equipment while avoiding the much higher cost and extended wait time associated with purchasing a brand-new fire engine.

Sincere appreciation to the Kingston Springs Board of Commissioners and Town Staff for believing in this project and supporting our long-term vision for the department.

Finally, thank you to our firefighters, who spent countless hours preparing Engine 2 for its journey.

Today, the Kingston Springs Fire Department received a $35,400 Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant from the Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office.

This competitive grant program provides funding to help volunteer fire departments purchase equipment that enhances firefighter safety and improves emergency response capabilities.
This funding will allow our department to purchase critical firefighter safety equipment, helping us better protect both our personnel and the community we proudly serve.

Chief Jeremy Vaughan expressed his appreciation, saying, "We are incredibly grateful to the Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office for selecting Kingston Springs to receive this grant. Every dollar invested in firefighter safety is an investment in our community. This funding will allow us to better equip our members so they can serve the citizens of Kingston Springs more safely and efficiently."

We would also like to recognize Kingston Springs Firefighter Daniel Patrick Shaffer, who dedicated the time and effort to write and submit this successful grant application. His hard work directly resulted in bringing these much-needed funds to our department.

Over the past few years, the cost of fire apparatus, equipment, and essential supplies has increased dramatically. Keeping a modern, safe, and well-equipped fire department of 30 members requires careful planning, responsible budgeting, and tremendous community support.

As Fire Chief, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to every community member, volunteer, sponsor, and donor who helped make the recent fundraising events such a success.

Thanks to your generosity, the April Crawfish Boil and March ‘Pickin in the Springs’ raised thousands of dollars for critical communications equipment that will improve firefighter safety and effectiveness in Kingston Springs.

Kingston Springs stands out because our community always steps up for each other. Neighbors, businesses, and volunteers continually support causes that strengthen our town. These fundraisers show what we can achieve together.

ENDANGERED CHILD ALERT: We need your help to find Skylar O’Connor-Thomas, who is missing from Davidson County.

The 13-year-old is 4’11”, 100 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen Wednesday near the intersection of Broadway and Division St. in Nashville.

Skylar was last seen wearing a black shirt with monster graphics, light blue sweatpants, and gray shoes.

Think fast: What's one of the best pieces of firefighting and lifesaving equipment?
Answer: A closed door.

A closed door can hinder flames and smoke from spreading to other rooms and can help deprive a fire of the oxygen it needs to grow, limiting the structural damage a fire can cause and, most importantly, saving lives. In fact, closing doors to quarantine a fire is an age-old technique used by firefighters that homeowners should always keep in mind.

Remember:

-Close the bedroom door when sleeping, if possible.
-Close doors behind you when escaping a room or building that's on fire.
-Keep fire doors closed. Never wedge, disable or prop open fire doors in any building.
