National POW/MIA Recognition Day
POW/MIA Recognition Day is commemorated on the third Friday of every September, a date that's not associated with any particular war. Resolutions making it official were passed in 1979 by Congress and the president after the families of the more than 2,500 Vietnam War POW/MIAs pushed for full accountability.
The point of POW/MIA Recognition Day is to ensure that America remembers and shows that it stands behind those who serve, and to make sure the Nation does everything it can to account for those who have never returned.
The remains of almost 81,600 Americans are still missing, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA).

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the many organizations and individuals who helped to make this year’s Memorial Day parade and ceremony in Kingston meaningful and memorable. Thank you to all the parade participants, especially our veterans and Guest of Honor Chief Master Sergeant Joseph M. O'Brien. Additionally, thank you to the Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, community organizations and Kingston residents and workers who decorated veterans graves in the cemeteries, cleaned and decorated the War Memorials, placed wreaths at Memorials, installed the Kingston Sea of Flags and decorated the Town House. Lastly, thank you to the residents who came, brought their children and supported this important tradition in our town. Kingston is fortunate to have you all as a part of our community.

Note: we apologize in advance for the overload of photos but there are so many people to thank!

Check out the first edition of the Operation Appreciation newsletter, created and written by the newly established student club at Silver Lake Regional High School. This is an amazing group of young adults offering so much to our community. They are spotlighting a local veteran each month and first up is US Air Force veteran Matthew Furlong. The club is busy recruiting veterans for future issues and would love to hear from any veteran willing to tell their story.
