Big news for families in Ulster County 🌿

YWCA Ulster County is expanding its infant and toddler childcare programs to Willow Landing, opening Fall 2026 in Kingston.

This educator designed center will create space for 36 infants and toddlers, helping address the growing need for high quality childcare in our region. Located within Willow Landing, a transformative supportive housing community developed by RUPCO, the center will be part of a broader vision that brings together housing, wellness, childcare, and community resources in one place.

At a time when families are facing a childcare crisis, this expansion represents an investment in children, working families, and the educators who make quality early childhood education possible.

We are honored to be partnering in a project that recognizes what communities need to thrive: safe housing, accessible childcare, and strong support systems.

We can’t wait to welcome families to Willow Landing in Fall 2026 💛

The U.S. Supreme Court’s weakening of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act marks a serious rollback of civil rights protections that were designed to prevent racial discrimination in voting. For decades, this law has been one of the most important tools for challenging unfair voting systems and racial gerrymandering that dilute the political power of Black and Latino communities.

Now, by shifting the standard to require proof of intentional discrimination, it becomes significantly harder to challenge systems that produce unequal outcomes, even when that harm is clear. Civil rights advocates warn that this opens the door for further voter suppression, particularly in states with conservative legislatures where restrictive voting maps and policies have already been repeatedly challenged in court.

Voting rights are not abstract. They determine who has power, who is represented, and whose needs are prioritized in law and policy. When these protections are weakened, inequality deepens.

At YWCA Ulster County, we believe that democracy must be accessible, fair, and representative. Protecting voting rights is essential to protecting racial justice.

This is not just a legal shift. It is a civil rights issue.

This Earth Day, we need to name a truth that is often overlooked: climate change is not gender neutral.

Across the world, women and girls are disproportionately impacted by climate disasters, displacement, poverty, and violence. From increased risks during extreme weather to the growing burden of securing basic resources like water, climate change is deepening existing inequalities.

It is also a matter of health. Rising temperatures and environmental stressors are linked to increased risks in pregnancy and newborn health, while access to care becomes more difficult during climate crises.

Climate justice must include gender justice. Addressing the climate crisis means addressing the systems that make some communities more vulnerable than others, and ensuring that women are not only protected, but centered in solutions.

This Earth Month, we are reminded that building a sustainable future also means building a more just and equitable one.

We’re hiring.

YWCA Ulster County is looking for Lead and Assistant Teachers to join our Infant, Toddler, and Pre School programs and help create safe, nurturing, and inspiring spaces for young learners.

Right now, the childcare crisis is placing immense pressure on families and educators alike. The cost of care continues to rise, while early childhood educators remain undervalued and underpaid across the country. This moment calls for investment in both children and the people who care for them.

At YWCA Ulster County, we are committed to doing things differently. Our faculty and staff rank among the most equitably compensated early childhood educators in the Northeastern United States, because we believe that valuing educators is essential to building strong foundations for children and families.

If you are passionate about early childhood education and want to be part of meaningful, community centered work, we invite you to apply.

This International Wellbeing Day, we honor the legacy of Black midwives whose knowledge, care, and advocacy continue to shape maternal and reproductive health today.

For generations, Black midwives have been more than caregivers. They have been protectors of life, holders of ancestral knowledge, and leaders in community based care. Their contributions, though often overlooked, remain foundational to safer, more holistic approaches to birth and wellbeing.

At YWCA Ulster County, we recognize that true wellbeing is rooted in equity, access, and honoring the wisdom of those who have long cared for our communities.

Their legacy lives on in the future we are working to build.
