On Monday, August 10, Kingston Fire Department units responded to a reported motor vehicle accident involving a rollover.

Units arrived in approximately three minutes and found a vehicle on its side with two occupants trapped inside. A second ALS ambulance was immediately requested to the scene.

Firefighters quickly went to work stabilizing the vehicle, establishing patient contact and providing care, while simultaneously beginning the extrication process.

Through the coordinated efforts of the 12 Firefighters/EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics on scene, crews removed the roof of the vehicle and successfully extricated both occupants in approximately 15 minutes.

Both patients were transported to HealthAlliance Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Remaining personnel continued working at the scene to mitigate hazards and ensure the area was safe.

All Kingston Fire Department units were back in service approximately one hour after the initial dispatch.

The Kingston Fire Department maintains trained personnel and specialized equipment to respond to complex emergencies throughout the City of Kingston and in support of communities across Ulster County.

Our technical rescue capabilities include:
• High- and low-angle rope rescue
• Confined-space rescue
• Hazardous materials response
• Technical Emergency Medical Support for high-risk operations

These incidents require extra training, coordination, and the ability to deploy specialized resources quickly. With career personnel on duty around the clock, the Kingston Fire Department remains ready to respond whenever and wherever assistance is needed.

On Friday, July 24, 2026, at approximately 2:24 p.m., the Kingston Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire on Colonial Drive.

Firefighters arrived in approximately three minutes and found a vehicle actively burning. Personnel quickly stretched a handline and extinguished the fire.

Following an investigation, the scene was turned over to the Kingston Police Department. Fire units cleared the scene within one hour.

The Kingston Fire Department is proud to announce the addition of a LUCAS mechanical CPR device to our emergency response equipment.

This device was received through a grant from the Ulster County Department of Emergency Services, and this week each KFD shift is completing training on its proper use before it is officially placed in service.

The LUCAS device is designed to provide consistent, high-quality chest compressions during cardiac arrest. In these critical moments, effective CPR is one of the most important parts of patient care. This device allows compressions to continue with minimal interruption while firefighters and paramedics manage other lifesaving tasks such as airway care, medications, defibrillation, patient movement, and transport.

While no piece of equipment replaces the training, judgment, and teamwork of our members, tools like this help improve the care we are able to provide during some of the most serious emergencies we respond to.

We are grateful to the Ulster County Department of Emergency Services for selecting the Kingston Fire Department to receive this valuable equipment through the grant so we can provide the best care to the residents and visitors of Kingston.

Extreme Heat Warning – City of Kingston

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Kingston area beginning Wednesday at 10:00 AM and continuing through Friday at 8:00 PM.

During this time, heat index values are expected to reach 105° to 111°. These conditions can become dangerous quickly, especially for older adults, young children, people with medical conditions, outdoor workers, and anyone without access to air conditioning.

The Kingston Fire Department encourages residents to take the following precautions:

• Drink water regularly, even if you do not feel thirsty
• Stay in air-conditioned areas whenever possible
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
• Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
• Check on family members, neighbors, and anyone who may need assistance
• Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle

Please also watch for signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, heavy sweating, weakness, nausea, confusion, or a high body temperature. If someone appears to be suffering from heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

We regret the delay, as more pressing matters required immediate attention. On the evening of Friday, June 19th, Kingston Fire was dispatched to a severe accident involving ejection on the New York State Thruway at mile post 90.3. Based on dispatch information, Engines 1 and 2, Medics 1, 2, and 4, and Truck 1 personnel responded. Within 4.5 minutes, 12 Kingston Fire Department personnel were working on scene. A helicopter was also dispatched to respond. Firefighters encountered multiple patients and an active vehicle and brush fire. With patients located between one vehicle 50 feet off the road and a second 200 feet north of the incident, all members worked diligently on life-saving measures and fire suppression. Command requested mutual aid ambulances from Hurley and Marbletown. Kingston Ambulance 3 reported to the toll booth for standby, while Marbletown was directed to Kingston Company 1 for standby and Rhinebeck Fire Department ambulance was requested for stand by at the bridge. Additional personnel were called in to ensure the city's safety. Units returned to service at 01:31 hours. This incident demonstrates the proficiency of Kingston Fire and the effectiveness of our mutual aid plan, with Hurley, Marbletown and Rhinebeck ambulances and Ulster Hose 5 responding to the city's call for assistance. We extend our gratitude to all involved for their professionalism displayed during the early morning incident. To Kingston residents, the city was at no time left unprotected, with Engine 3 carrying a full line of Basic Life Support gear and Ambulance 3, Marbletown and Rhinebeck Ambulances available.

On Saturday, May 30th, six Kingston Firefighters participated in the "Fire Behavior from the Inside" training session, presented by the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, held at the Glasco Fire Department. These six individuals represent the latest cohort of newly hired paramedics and EMTs. This course is widely regarded as the premier training program for firefighters seeking to understand the dynamics and factors influencing fire behavior. The simulation conditions endured by the students were as realistic as possible while maintaining safety protocols. Completion of this course is mandatory for all new Kingston Firefighters. I am pleased to acknowledge the achievement of these six individuals, as well as the 28 members who have previously completed the program.

Mayor Noble's vision was to provide residents with top-tier advanced life support ambulances, and he has achieved this goal with two fully staffed Advanced Life Support ambulances operating 24/7, as well as two firefighter/paramedics on other apparatus. The department is equipped with a fully equipped third ALS ambulance and a SUV vehicle ready for deployment if necessary. With over 40 years of experience in EMS services, I confidently attest that Mayor Noble, the Kingston Common Council, Local 461 members, and I have delivered a superior Fire/EMS department to the City of Kingston.
