Ulster County Habitat for Humanity

Ulster County Habitat for Humanity Every person deserves a safe and affordable place to live. Ulster County Habitat for Humanity is a local non-profit housing organization.

Together, with our supportive community, Ulster Habitat helps families build homes, ensuring a brighter future that has been demonstrated to be multi-generational. We believe that everry one deserves a safe, affordable place to live. Our mission is to build strength, stability, and independence through homeownership. With the help of volunteers and donations from businesses and members of the comm

unity, we are able to build homes for qualified families which they purchase with an affordable mortgage. Our families contribute sweat equity/volunteer hours to the construction of the homes and participating in Homebuyer Education classes. During the process, our families become knowledgeable about home repair and maintenance and learn the financial skills needed to be a successful homeowner.

Making your goals a reality starts with the right tools.

Our financial education program teaches budgeting, credit building, money management, and homeownership readiness. Participants gain practical skills they can use right away — and the confidence to build the financial future they want.

It's about creating options and opening doors.

We love when our sponsors stop by to make it official. 💚

Donna Ch***pa from Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union visited us at Ulster County Habitat for Humanity this week, and we could not be more excited to welcome MHVFCU as a Door Opener sponsor for Women Build 2026!

As a Door Opener -- our top sponsorship level -- MHVFCU will be bringing a team of branch managers to the build site in September. That means tools in hand, boots on the ground, and women building a home together right here in Ulster County.

Women Build 2026 takes place September 22-26 at Hope Springs in Saugerties. We are building a team -- and MHVFCU is leading the way.

Women don't knock on doors. We build them. 🏠

Happy National Best Friends Day from Ulster County Habitat for Humanity -- and from some of the best friends we know. 💙

One of the best kept secrets about working in the Habitat world is the people. Across New York State, there is a network of affiliate leaders and staff who show up for each other -- at build sites, in legislative halls, at planning tables, and yes, sometimes just for a selfie.

We are lucky to count among our friends Jess of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh, Eelco of Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, Sam of Columbia-Greene Habitat for Humanity, Christine Shudde of Habitat for Humanity Capital District, Shannon of for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties , and Sarah of Habitat for Humanity -- and so many more across this state who are doing the same work, fighting the same fight, and building the same dream: that everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

The Habitat family is a big one. We would not have it any other way.

This is what Habitat homeownership looks like before the keys are handed over.

Last month, three of our partner families gathered for a Homebuyer Education Series session on landscaping and gardening — taught by two of our own. George, a longtime ReStore volunteer, and Gary, from our build crew (center, in red), are both Cornell-trained Master Gardeners. They offered their time, their knowledge, and their patience to help our homebuyers picture not just the house, but the yard around it.

While the adults took notes, the kids made art. The flowers on the poster carry their names: Tirzah, Ida (with a heart, naturally), Yulysa, Salva, and Angel.

This is the part of Habitat that doesn't fit in a press release. The neighbors who become teachers. The volunteers who keep showing up after the walls are built. The families learning side by side before they're side by side on the same street.

National Homeownership Month is about more than closings. It's about everything that holds a home together once the family moves in.

Happy Pride Month!

Let's open the door to a community where everyone belongs and is welcome. Everyone has a role to play.

Real change — the kind that closes the housing gap, builds stronger neighborhoods, and makes opportunity available to everyone — takes all of us.

Every voice, every pair of hands, every perspective has a role to play in our work at Habitat.

That's the community we're building. And there's a place in it for you.

Help us open the door. Get involved.
