Can’t get enough Rev 250 this year? Join the New York State Library’s October 28 online presentation: Escape from the Sugar House: Levi Hanford & the American Revolution

Hear the story of Levi Hanford, a teenaged Revolutionary War militiaman who survived a stint as a prisoner of war at the infamous Sugar House Prison in New York City and then spent his final years in the Catskills. Based on actual events, this coming-of-age adventure story is set against the backdrop of America’s struggle for independence. It’s a time of upheaval. A time when divided loyalties can mean the difference between freedom and imprisonment. Between life and death.

What does the report show?
In 2025, there was a slight increase in Kingston’s annual air pollution (as measured by particulate matter, PM2.5). It also found Kingston neighborhoods can have very different street-level PM 2.5 readings and often have higher levels of PM 2.5 as compared to rooftop sensors

What is PM2.5?
It is any particulate matter that measures 2.5 micrometers in diameter or smaller. It often comes from vehicle exhaust and the burning of fossil fuels for power, among other sources.

Where is the data from?
The Center for Environmental Sciences and Humanities at Bard College (CESH) has been doing research and collecting data for six consecutive years. They measured air pollution on the rooftop of the Andy Murphy Neighborhood Center, located at 467 Broadway, Kingston NY

Soul Collage: A Creative Journey of Self-Discovery Wednesday, November 4 • 6pm

SoulCollage® is a simple and intuitive form of collage-making. You’ll begin by looking through a collection of magazines and other printed images, noticing which pictures, colors, textures, and words catch your attention. Without worrying about making a “perfect” collage or knowing exactly what an image means, you’ll select the ones that speak to you and arrange, layer, and combine them to create a personal collage card or cards.

As you work, the images begin to come together in unexpected and often meaningful ways. The finished card becomes a visual expression of something within you—a feeling, experience, quality, question, or part of yourself. There is no right or wrong way to create a SoulCollage® card. The process is playful, intuitive, and accessible to everyone, regardless of artistic experience.

Come spend some time slowing down, playing with images, and seeing what emerges. Bring your curiosity and intuitive wisdom! No artistic experience necessary.

On this day in 1781, British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered his army of some 8,000 men to General George Washington at Yorktown, giving up any chance of winning the Revolutionary War.

Cornwallis had marched his army into the Virginia port town earlier that summer expecting to meet British ships sent from New York. The ships never arrived.

Citywide Parking Study Public Meeting

An open house-style public meeting for the Citywide Parking Study will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 6-8pm at City Hall.

Community members are welcome to stop by City Hall and speak with consultants to learn more about the Citywide Parking Study. Members of Stantec’s team will be on hand to discuss initial findings, explain their methodology, and answer questions. All are invited to attend and share feedback on parking issues and opportunities in the City of Kingston.

At the open house, Stantec will present early results from field data collection and will have opportunities for community feedback.

The Parking Study will inventory the City’s parking supply, assess parking demand, and develop parking management strategies that balance the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors while also advancing the City’s multi-modal transportation priorities. The Parking Study is intended to guide the City, its leadership, key stakeholders, and the public towards system improvements that make parking work better for Kingston’s economy, its people, its climate, and its livability. The Study will result in a comprehensive set of recommendations for best practices to meet current and projected parking and travel demand, enhance mobility and access, and optimize opportunities to realize more growth with less parking.
