Our story today was "Pioneer Girl, The Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder" by William Anderson.
This was a picture biography of Laura, the little girl born in the Big Woods of Wisconsin and raised in covered wagons and on wide open prairies.
After Laura was in her 60's she realized how much she missed those times with Pa and Ma and her 3 sisters in the Big Woods, so she decided to write down her memories of her childhood. She wrote when she had time, between cooking and working in the garden and spending time with Almonzo.
Laura wrote her first book, Litte House of the Big Woods, especially for children so they could know how pioneers had lived.
The children made spinners, a toy they played with in Laura's time. And they ate Gingerbread, made from a recipe from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Country Cookbook, topped with ice cream of course!
Join us next Thursday at 4:30pm for a story hour having to do with seashells.
