COMMUNITY SCAM ALERT

The Kingston Police Department would like to warn the public about an ongoing phone scam targeting residents.

The suspect is spoofing the phone number of the Kingston Police Department and identifying himself as “Deputy Chief Ricky Negron.” The caller tells victims that their credit card was used at a Walmart in San Antonio, Texas and that they are the subject of a fraud investigation. The suspect then attempts to intimidate victims by telling them that if they go to the police station they will be arrested.

Please be advised that this is a scam.

The Kingston Police Department will never contact members of the public by phone to demand personal information, banking information, credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or payments. We also will not threaten arrest over the phone in this manner.

Residents are reminded to never provide personal or financial information to anyone over the phone unless you have independently verified who you are speaking with. If you receive a suspicious call:
• Hang up immediately
• Do not provide any personal information
• Do not send money or gift cards
• Contact the Kingston Police Department directly using a verified phone number

If you believe you may have been a victim of this scam, please contact the Kingston Police Department.

Please share this post to help protect others in our community.
