We are pleased to invite you to an upcoming Public Open House for Ulster County’s Community Climate Action Plan project! Whether you have been participating in the project process along the way or are just learning about it, this event is for you! This is an opportunity to provide feedback and help prioritize key climate action initiatives to reduce GHG emissions countywide at a community scale. Please see attached flyer and share widely within your community networks. From local businesses to agriculture to schools to public health, the arts, recreation, conservation and tourism, climate action spans it all!

It's that time of year again...The Annual Ulster County Environmental Committee Roundtable will take place Wednesday 8/28 at the Rosendale Rec Center. Doors open at 5pm for networking and formal programming will begin at 5:30pm. Ulster County is developing a county-wide Community Climate Action Plan to reduce climate-damaging emissions and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable, and more resilient county. We can’t do it without you!

Did you hear? The Ulster County Community Climate Action Plan (Ulster CCAP) Project is underway! This newly launched project includes calculating current greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) at the County level and identify solutions or “climate action initiatives” to address and reduce GHG emissions with prioritization of initiatives that will be included in the final plan.
This is a community driven process with a variety of outreach and engagement opportunities. Visit the Project Webpage (link below for more information, including a community survey and interactive features. There will be a public meeting on 7/10 via Zoom to provide community input and learn more about the project. Please consider attending and share widely amongst your networks so we have strong participation and an impactful Climate Action Plan that reflects community needs!

Happy Spring! Its that time of year again...Ulster County Department of the Environment and Ulster County Soil and Water Conservation District Ulster County Soil and Water Conservation District are partnering a third year to provide Ulster County communities with trees and mulch for community tree plantings in recognition of Arbor Day 2024. Link to applications is in the comments. Email completed applications and any questions to [email protected]. Applications will be reviewd on a rolling basis. Please apply by May 17th. Spring and Fall planting options available. Municipalities that have not yet received this support will have priority in selection process! Please spread the word.

Take part in a public workshop to assist Ulster County in land-use planning and decision-making by reviewing a draft of the Natural Resources Inventory and online Mapper and Toolkit.

Ulster County is home to world-class natural resources, and a Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) will assemble and map these resources to support sound land-use planning that protects these assets for future generations. Your input will help refine the inventory and test the online tools.

We're excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for Ulster County Climate Corps – a new paid, project-based summer internship program! Participants will be assigned to County departments to help implement the County’s climate and sustainability initiatives and assist in meeting the goals of the NYS Climate Act.
Interns will gain professional and practical experience in government, supplemented by skill-based training and guest speakers on topics related to the environment, project management, and public administration. Interns will also have opportunities to participate in community engagement and fieldwork.
