Today, September 11, 2026, marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001.

We remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost that day, including the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, and countless civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice.

As firefighters, we especially remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who gave their lives while running toward danger to save others.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood continue to inspire us.

The Sawkill Fire Department is looking for Town of Kingston residents who have an old, unwanted vehicle they would be willing to donate for auto extrication training.

These vehicles give our firefighters valuable hands-on experience using the tools and techniques needed to safely extricate patients from vehicles during serious accidents.

Here’s the best part:
✔️ We will arrange to pick up the vehicle
✔️ The vehicle will be used for firefighter training
✔️ After training, we will transport it to the junkyard
✔️ There is NO cost to the resident

If you have a vehicle you would like to donate, or would like more information, please reach out to Chief Dave Hoffman.

Thank you for supporting the Sawkill Fire Department and our firefighters!

Last night was the Ulster County Firefighter one graduation. Firefighter Makenzie Hoffman received her certificate on successfully completing the course. Since become an interior firefighter in December firefighter Hoffman has only become more knowledgeable and stronger as a firefighter, and will continue to take classes and learn more at every opportunity.

From the officers of the department, congratulations Makenzie.

The Officers and Members of the Sawkill Fire Department extend our heartfelt condolences to the Spring Lake Fire Department as they mourn the loss of Firefighter Dave Allen.

Dave was a dedicated New York State Fire Instructor who made a lasting impact on the fire service. Many of our members had the privilege of learning from him over the years, including recently during an OSHA class.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the Spring Lake Fire Department, as well as Dave’s family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
