Your vote matters. Please vote for Mike Kavanagh for District Attorney tomorrow!

On the eve of Election Day, my father and I decided to go to the neighborhood in Woodstock where I grew up, to knock on doors. We took this picture in front of my childhood home, and shared a small tear thinking about how proud my mom would have been if she were still alive. That home was full of more love and wonderful memories than any child could ever hope for, and my sister Megan and I are eternally grateful to our parents for making it that way.

I was so fortunate to grow up in Ulster County, and my wife and I are proud to raise our children here. I want to continue working hard every day to keep Ulster County the best place to live and raise a family, for my kids and yours.

Please help by getting out tomorrow and voting for me. Thank you!

Justice E. Michael Kavanagh, one of the associate justices of the
Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department, is running for a second 14-year term as a Justice of the Supreme Court for the Third Judicial District, which encompasses the counties of Albany, Rensselaer, Ulster, Columbia, Schoharie, Greene and Sullivan. Justice Kavanagh has been rated “highly qualified” by the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission for the Third Judicial Department.
What voters cannot glean from the ratings, campaign brochures and other election-related materials is how Justice Kavanagh conducts himself in cases that often involve very unhappy people who are under a great deal of stress enmeshed as they are in some very unpleasant circumstances. I have argued cases before Justice Kavanagh and have observed him in many, many more. Justice Kavanagh has earned his “highly qualified” rating because of his thorough preparation, for the courtesy and respect he shows to litigants, and for demonstrating a particular mindfulness for the often troubling and turbulent undercurrents behind every case. Although he is in every sense of the word a highly skilled and knowledgeable jurist, he is humble in his role and compassionate. He is sensitive to the often difficult and troubling facts and issues in the cases before him. He is also serious, earnest and business-like. In short, Justice Kavanagh has an exemplary judicial demeanor that is perfectly attuned to his role as an appellate jurist.
Justice Kavanagh exemplifies the kind of jurist whose dedication and hard work have made the Appellate Division for the Third Department a highly respected appellate court of which eery New Yorker can be proud. Look for his name on the ballot of election day and if you see it, cast your vote for a candidate who has more than earned a second term serving the People of the State of New York.

To the editor:
I write to endorse the re-election of Judges Michael Kavanagh and Bernard Malone. Judges Kavanagh and Malone are among the most qualified, capable, ethical, honorable and clear-thinking judges presently sitting in the State of New York, and it is essential to our justice system that they be re-elected.
No other judge running for the office each now holds has their experience, their quality, their record of accomplishment, or their statewide reputations for being everything an extraordinary judge should be.
Only Judges Kavanagh and Malone have received the highest ratings possible from impartial, non-partisan, informed organizations.
I have known each judge for a long time, known them as lawyers and judges. I first met them in the courtroom where we tried cases against one another. Each was a skilled, brilliant lawyer and prosecutor who tried cases at the highest and most honorable levels of our profession. I have appeared before each once they became judges, and the same talents and knowledge, sense of fairness and or right that made them such exceptional lawyers is evident every day of their lives as judges.
These are two men of remarkable character whose commitment to the profession of the law and our system of justice has and continues to benefit citizens throughout our state.
A vote for Kavanagh and Malone is as necessary and important a vote as any citizen can cast on election day. Their distinguished lives have earned them the right to be re-elected. Justice for every citizen is best assured by a vote for Judges Kavanagh and Malone.
