Newsweek takes this opportunity to repeat the falsehood that "Jill Stein siphoned votes away from Kamala Harris in key swing states" when the reality is that far more people were so uninspired by the major party choices in this election and didn't vote at all than voted for Dr. Stein. as the Democrats continue to blame others for their own unpopular decisions. The article begins:

An arrest warrant was issued, and then subsequently dropped, for the Green Party's former presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein following a failed court appearance related to a 2024 assault charge.

The case had a hearing on Monday at 9 a.m. Neither Stein nor her attorney attended, though prosecutors were in attendance.

St. Louis Judge Karma Johnson said of Stein’s absence, “There will be a failure to appear warrant for Ms. Stein,” per St. Louis Magazine.

The warrant was later dropped after Stein's attorney, Joseph Welch, appeared in court in the afternoon and Judge Johnson granted his request to have the warrant quashed.

Stein said in a statement shared with Newsweek over email that "I hope the media pays more attention to the carnage in Gaza and the West Bank than to a warrant issued over a schedule mix up and recalled by the judge before I even had a chance to comment."

The charges stem from a 2024 incident at a protest over the war in Gaza at the University of Washington.

Maryland journalist and political activist Sam Husseini has launched a congressional bid for the state’s 4th Congressional District, mounting a challenge against Democratic U.S. Rep. Glenn Ivey with the support of the Maryland Green Party.

Husseini officially announced his candidacy on August 6 during an appearance on The Katie Halper Show, thanking the Green Party for its support and saying that he wanted to take advantage of the Republican Party’s weak presence in the district to mount a serious challenge to the two-party system. He argued that running in the 4th District is “especially poignant” because he believes he has a chance to outperform the Republican nominee and that a strong Green campaign just outside Washington, D.C., could have national ramifications.

His announcement follows several weeks of deliberation over whether he would commit to the race. The Maryland Green Party originally selected Husseini as its nominee following an internal primary that closed on July 22. However, following the party’s announcement of its preliminary nominees, Husseini said publicly that he was still in the exploratory phase and considering his next steps. He ultimately entered the race the following week.

Husseini is an independent journalist and senior analyst with the Institute for Public Accuracy who has written extensively on matters of U.S. foreign policy, politics, and culture. He is also the founder of the VotePact strategy, an electoral approach that encourages frustrated Democratic and Republican voters to pair together and instead support third party or independent candidates, allowing both to vote for their preferred alternatives without either major party gaining an advantage from their decisions.

Husseini has also garnered attention over the years for his rather confrontational approach to questioning government officials, particularly on foreign policy. More recently, in January 2025, security personnel removed him from Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s final State Department press conference after he repeatedly interrupted Blinken with questions over U.S. support for Israel during the war in Gaza. He similarly attracted attention in 2011 when the National Press Club suspended him following his questioning of former Saudi intelligence chief Prince Turki al-Faisal, though the organization later reversed that decision.

During his announcement, Husseini said he intends to make U.S. support for Israel and the influence of pro-Israel political organizations a major focus of his candidacy. He specifically called out Ivey over his relationship with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, referring to the congressman as a “complete tool” of the organization who benefitted heavily from an AIPAC-affiliated super PAC during the 2022 Democratic primary.

Since he was nominated by a recognized party, Husseini does not need to collect signatures to appear on the ballot, as the Maryland Green Party is allowed under state law to nominate candidates through its own internal processes. The party regained its recognition in 2024 after submitting a petition for recognition, with state officials ultimately accepting 10,134 signatures.

Husseini is set to face Ivey and Republican George McDermott in November. Ivey has represented the 4th District since first winning election in 2022 and is seeking a third term. McDermott also previously challenged him in 2024, when Ivey won reelection with more than 88 percent of the vote.

The Green Party of Pennsylvania has issued a warning to voters that an unknown group is helping candidates seek ballot access under its name this cycle without its involvement, raising questions about who is recruiting the candidates and paying people to circulate their petitions.

In a statement published July 22 in the Pike County Courier, the party said it recently learned that several candidates it had not endorsed were petitioning to appear on the general election ballot as Greens. The party said it then began looking into those candidacies, finding that some people named on the paperwork appeared to have little understanding of their involvement.

“Several of those listed as the committee to fill vacancies were unaware that their name was included on the candidate petitions,” the statement read. “Some individuals explained they received a random phone call requesting to help but could not recall from whom or for what exact purpose.”

The party said its State Committee originally voted in March to back only Tony Dastra for governor and Craig Bolton for lieutenant governor. As it attempted to learn more about the other candidates, it found that petition circulators working in the field acknowledged they were being paid but could not say by whom.

It also said the candidates had not formed campaign committees to receive or spend money and had been approached by unnamed people offering to place them on the ballot “for free.” It added that some had only recently changed their registrations to the Green Party after previously being registered with another party or as independents.

“It is apparent that an effort to achieve ballot access in an un-transparent manner is underway and that some unendorsed candidates have chosen to appear as representing the Green Party,” the statement continued. “The GPPA is warning the electorate of the commonwealth and is disclosing this information it has discovered.”

In a brief dated July 16, state Greens asked the Dane County Circuit Court to grant the Wisconsin Elections Commission’s motion for summary judgment in United Wisconsin v. Wisconsin Elections Commission. The filing was joined by party co-chairs Michael White and Curtis Bolton, along with Green Party candidates Pete Karas, Robert Longwell-Grice, David Schupbach, and Matthew Arndt.

Among the party’s slate, Karas is running for secretary of state this cycle, while Arndt is seeking Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District. Schupbach and Longwell-Grice are running for the 5th and 10th Assembly districts, respectively.

My comment: Ware placed 13th in a field of 62. He would have done much better if the partisan California Secretary of State had not unfairly removed him from the ballot in a bureaucratic fakeout that was upheld by partisan judges.

On June 10, the California Secretary of state released the official vote returns for the June 2 primary. Butch Ware, Green Party candidate for Governor, received 22,493 write-ins. He had not been on the ballot because the Secretary of State was not satisfied with the copies of income tax returns that he had submitted.
Ware’s total was greater than the number of votes received by 49 candidates who were listed on the ballot. It was also the largest number of write-ins received in any California top-two primary by a write-in candidate.
