🎓 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: From H.M. King Valedictorian to M.D.! 🩺✨

Join us in celebrating Brahmas alumna Dr. Miranda Leigh Hernandez, M.D. (Class of 2017 Valedictorian) on an incredible milestone! Miranda has officially earned her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the historic University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston! 🎉

Miranda’s journey of academic excellence is truly inspiring:
🏆 H.M. King High School (2017): Valedictorian
🐻 Baylor University (2020): Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Magna Cum Laude
🏥 UTMB (2026): Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)

Beyond her academic achievements, Miranda has spent the last nine years advocating for health equity through the Latino Medical Student Association.

Today, she proudly enters the medical field representing the elite 2.7% of Latina physicians in the United States. 🇺🇸❤️

What’s next for Dr. Hernandez? 🚀

She has officially matched with Indiana University! This June, she begins a highly competitive dual residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She will be completing her specialty training on-site at Indiana University Health and the renowned Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Huge congratulations to Miranda and her proud parents, Tomas and Thelma Hernandez! Kingsville is so proud of you, Dr. Hernandez, and we cannot wait to see the lives you will impact! 🥳👏

If you have any questions about summer school please feel free to email me. I will respond as soon as I am able to.

Additionally, I will set up a Remind for parent communication.

Thank you so much for your patience, support, and understanding as we launch our summer school program.

Our goal is to provide every student with the opportunity to receive instruction and interventions to prepare them for the upcoming school year and recover credit.

The EOC schedule has been posted as well. We will be sending home letters with the the report cards regarding the opportunity for summer school and the EOC dates. Additionally, we have been making phone calls to invite those who need to retest but may not have failed any classes. We want to provide our students with the opportunity to receive interventions before their next testing opportunity.

Summer School will provide interventions for any student who is needing to retest.

Letters with EOC retest opportunities will be included with the report cards when they are mailed home.

Campus staff will be making phone calls to invite any student needing EOC interventions to attend summer school.

Greetings HMK Family,
Our summer school program will begin on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Breakfast is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

We passed out letters for summer school last week, and we will also be including letters with the report cards mailed home later this week. Phone calls are also being made to ensure we communicate the need and opportunity for summer school in multiple ways.

Additionally, if you have any questions, our front office is available to take your phone calls.

Questions regarding summer school eligibility and attendance will be answered as soon as possible. We ask for your patience and understanding as we make sure to provide the most accurate information. This may require taking your information and returning your phone call with the answers to clarify any questions.

Again, thank you for your continued support of our school.

Greetings Parents,
Please see the traffic flow for morning and afternoon driveline for H. M. King and Gillett Summer School.

All traffic must enter through the North gate. The South gate and Front Office parking lot is not for morning and afternoon driveline.

We thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued support as we prepare for our 2026 Summer School program.

Summer school letters were handed to students this week. We will also be mailing home letters with the report cards and are making phone calls.

If you have any questions regarding our summer school program, we will be available to answer these questions and check credit and attendance recovery efforts to verify the need for summer school beginning on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

We will be sending notices for summer school home with the students by tomorrow. Also, we will be including summer school letters in the report cards that will be mailed home.

Additionally, we will be making phone calls home.

Information about summer school will be posted next week.

Parents, if you have any questions about summer school eligibility or status due to credit recovery efforts in the school year, we will be able to answer those questions beginning on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, as our offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

We thank you for your understanding, patience, and support as we end the current school year and begin summer school operations.

Mr. Acevedo will be the point of contact for summer school.
