🌊💧 Calling all young conservation artists! 🎨

Did you know that every drop of water has a story to tell?

The 48th Texas Conservation Awards Program Poster Contest is giving students 12 and under a chance to put their creativity to work with this year’s theme:

💦 “From Source to Sea: Every Drop Has a Journey.”

From rain falling from the clouds to streams, rivers, wetlands, and eventually the sea, water is always on the move—and our conservation choices can help protect it along the way. 🌧️🌱

Students can bring this journey to life through hand-drawn artwork while learning more about the importance of protecting our soil and water resources.

📣 Just a friendly reminder: If you have a young artist in your family, classroom, or community, now is a great time to start thinking about their poster!

There are two age divisions:
✏️ Kindergarten–2nd Grade
✏️ 3rd–6th Grade

📏 Posters are 22" x 14" and must be drawn entirely by hand.

Tuesday, ATSWCD President Leroy Wolff represented Texas soil and water conservation districts while highlighting the important role voluntary, locally led conservation plays in keeping farmers and ranchers on the land. From healthy soils and clean water to drought resilience and strong agricultural communities, conservation is helping Texas producers make the most of every drop. We’re proud to support the farmers, ranchers, and local leaders who work every day to protect Texas’ natural resources and keep agriculture thriving. 🌱💧

Do you know a teacher who works hard to bring agriculture to life in the classroom in fun and innovative ways? Nominate them for our Agriculture in the Classroom Outstanding Teacher Award!

Each year, we recognize one teacher for their efforts and reward them with a cash prize and an expense-paid trip to the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference!

It is that time of the year, again. Our SWCD will sponsor the annual poster & essay contest. We will be contacting the schools in September- October with the instructions for the 2027 contest.

We’re excited to kick off another year of celebrating the incredible conservation work happening across our communities! We can’t wait to see all the creative, impactful, and inspiring entries roll in.

Reminder: Entries must be postmarked before February 1, 2027.

Reefs aren't always made of coral. They can be composed of rocks, man-made structures, or... worms. 🪱🪸

In Texas' Baffin Bay, serpulid worms make up vital biogenic reefs. Human pressure has shrunk these rare, ancient reef systems over the past decades, but new projects aim to bring them back.

From scuba diving to water quality monitoring, it's no easy undertaking. But the team of Texas A&M Corpus Christi researchers is dedicated.
