During National EMS Week, the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Protection District would like to recognize the EMS providers who have volunteered with our area ambulance service.

For many years, as with many small communities, the local ambulance service was operated out of the funeral home, utilizing the hearse as a dual-purpose ambulance. Beryl “Dutch” Linton and Linton Funeral Home provided the first ambulance service for Kinmundy for many years with the help of volunteers. Ever since, our local ambulance service has relied on dedicated community members who volunteer their time when possible to respond to those in need.

After Linton Funeral Home ceased ambulance operations in the early 1980s, it fell to the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Department to ensure that emergency medical services would continue for the Kinmundy area. Wilson-Roddy Ambulance Service loaned an ambulance until one could be procured by the fire department in June 1982.
For the past 44 years, the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Protection District has provided emergency medical care for the people of Kinmundy and the surrounding 138 square miles. Listed here are over 130 confirmed members of the Kinmundy-Alma community who have answered the call as licensed EMS providers.

(The names shown were obtained through various sources, and many records have been lost. If there are any former KA EMTs or EMS providers missing from the list, please share their names with us. We wish to recognize all members, past and present. An asterisk denotes your current ambulance service members)

The KAFPD Ambulance Service is always accepting applications from those who wish to give back to their community. EMT and EMR classes are held throughout the area, and we can help you get trained and licensed.

For generations, members of this community have answered calls at all hours, cared for neighbors in their worst moments, and helped ensure emergency medical care remained available in our area. We thank every past and present EMS provider who has served the Kinmundy-Alma community.

🎧 End of an Era… and the Start of a New Chapter 🚔

Today is Justin’s last day with the Salem Police Department—and while we’re not saying goodbye, we are sending him on to his next adventure as the Marion County Coordinator!

Justin began his career with SPD on June 27, 2000, and was promoted to Supervisor on October 1, 2015. As of April 24, 2026, he officially closes this chapter and starts a new one.

Justin has witnessed and led decades of change in Telecommunications. From when most 911 calls came from landlines… to today’s wireless world. From a DOS-based CAD system (no mouse!) to multiple generations of LEADS, radios, and phones he’s done it all.

💻 That command line speed? Built from the HTE days.☎️ No wireless headsets back then—storms meant unplugging and grabbing the handset!

He even completed EMD training before it was required, and then helped guide the transition when it became part of everyday operations.

And for those who have been around awhile you might remember Justin as “Junior.” He earned that nickname because he was one of the youngest when he started… safe to say, we can officially retire that title now. 😉

Through every shift, Justin has been a steady voice, a leader, and someone our team could always count on.

While we’ll miss him here at Salem Police Department, we know he’s going to do incredible things as Marion County Coordinator.

Congratulations, Justin we’re proud of you!

We have the greatest dispatchers anybody could have and we appreciate all of them
