πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to the 40 LCPS students who signed on for paid summer internships during our 2nd Annual Workforce Ignite Lenoir Signing Day!

These students are turning their summer break into an opportunity to gain real-world experience, build professional skills, and begin exploring careers that can lead directly to successful futures right here in our community.

Through partnerships with organizations including Crown Equipment Corporation, SEED (Smithfield Foods), ACE Electric, Fleet Readiness Center East, Kinston Police Department, Kinston Public Services, Magic Mile Media, and Lenoir County Public Schools, students will work alongside industry professionals in fields ranging from skilled trades and public service to media, manufacturing, and education.

Workforce Ignite Lenoir is another example of how LCPS is fulfilling its mission of connecting every child to a prosperous future by creating meaningful pathways from the classroom to the workforce.

πŸ“£ Lenoir County Public Schools is proud to announce several administrative changes for the 2026-2027 school year.

These outstanding leaders bring years of experience, a deep commitment to education, and strong connections to our schools and communities.

⭐ Dr. Elizabeth Pierce has been named Director of High School Curriculum and Career & Technical Education. A former LCPS Principal of the Year and Southeast Region Principal of the Year, Dr. Pierce has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal at multiple schools across the district and brings extensive leadership experience to her new role.

⭐ Jeremy Barnett has been named Principal of South Lenoir High School. A South Lenoir graduate, former teacher and coach, and current principal of Woodington Middle School, Mr. Barnett returns to his alma mater to lead the school he proudly calls his dream job.

⭐ David Combs has been named Principal of Woodington Middle School. After serving as a teacher, coach, and most recently assistant principal at South Lenoir High School, Mr. Combs brings strong leadership and a student-centered approach to Woodington.

⭐ Amy White has been named Principal of Banks Elementary School. A lifelong LCPS educator and former Lenoir County Teacher of the Year, Mrs. White has served as assistant principal at Kinston High School for the past five years.

⭐ Julie Rouse has been named Principal of Pink Hill Elementary School. A North Lenoir graduate and longtime LCPS educator, Mrs. Rouse has spent nearly two decades supporting Pink Hill Elementary as a teacher, curriculum specialist, digital learning specialist, and instructional leader.

⭐ Larry Dale has been named Assistant Principal at Kinston High School. A veteran educator, coach, and Principal Fellows scholar, Mr. Dale brings experience in mathematics instruction, athletics, and school leadership.

⭐ Austin Reese has been named Assistant Principal at North Lenoir High School. After serving as curriculum specialist and digital learning specialist at Banks Elementary, Ms. Reese demonstrated exceptional leadership while serving as acting principal during the school year.

⭐ Jodi Peele has been named Assistant Principal at South Lenoir High School. A South Lenoir graduate and longtime LCPS educator, Mrs. Peele most recently served as digital learning specialist at Pink Hill Elementary and completed the Principal Fellows Program through East Carolina University.

As we welcome these leaders into their new roles, we also recognize the contributions of those whose service helped shape our schools and district.

πŸ’™ Dr. Amy Jones will be transitioning to a regional Career and Technical Education leadership role with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. A lifelong LCPS educator, Dr. Jones began her career as a band teacher at E.B. Frink Middle School before serving as a school counselor, assistant principal, principal, and most recently Director of High School Curriculum and Career & Technical Education. Her leadership has helped strengthen workforce development opportunities across the district, and while we are sad to see her leave LCPS, we are excited to see her continue making an impact for students across North Carolina.

πŸ’™ Dr. Heather Lancaster is stepping away from education to focus on her family. During her career, she served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal at both Southwood Elementary and Banks Elementary. Her leadership helped drive significant academic growth and student success, and we are grateful for the dedication and passion she brought to LCPS each day.

πŸ’™ Lee Anne Hardy is retiring after a distinguished career in education. Mrs. Hardy served as a teacher at Northwest Elementary School, assistant principal at Woodington Middle School, and principal of Pink Hill Elementary School since 2012. Her steady leadership, commitment to students, and service to the Pink Hill community have left a lasting legacy that will be felt for years to come.

Last week, LCPS proudly celebrated our outstanding transportation staff at the Annual Transportation Banquet! πŸšŒπŸ’™

The evening was filled with great food, fun, fellowship and well-deserved recognition for the individuals who work tirelessly each day to safely transport our students to and from school. From early morning routes to afternoon drop-offs, our transportation team plays an essential role in the success of our district, and we are so grateful for their dedication.

One of the highlights of the evening was recognizing 26 transportation employees who achieved perfect attendance during the 2025-2026 school year. Their commitment and dependability are truly remarkable, and each honoree received a $500 award in appreciation of their hard work and dedication. πŸ‘

Congratulations also goes to Banks Elementary, winner of this year’s table decorating contest! Their creative and spirited table setup helped bring extra fun and excitement to the event. πŸŽ‰

Thank you to every member of our transportation department for the care, professionalism and support you show our students and families every day. LCPS is better because of you, and we appreciate all that you do to keep our buses rolling safely all year long! 🚌✨

β˜€οΈ Get ready for middle school with our Middle School Summer Bridge Academyβ˜€οΈ

This two-week camp gives rising 6th graders a chance to get comfortable with middle school before the first day of school. Students will get a sneak peek into English Language Arts and Math instruction, participate in a fun STEM challenge, and build important skills like time management, organization, and conflict resolution.

πŸŽ‰ Students who attended last year say they enjoyed meeting new friends, learning their way around middle school, and feeling more confident before the school year began. Check out the video below to hear directly from former participants and learn more about the program!
