In honor of National EMS Week, we wanted to share a fact with you to highlight the hard work and training of the EMS employees at Lenoir County Emergency Services.

This year, Lenoir County Emergency Services saw a 700% increase in life saves. That’s right a 700% INCREASE!

How do we define a life save?

A life save occurs when a 911 call is placed to the Jones-Lenoir County 911 Center, Lenoir County EMS responds, provides critical life-saving interventions, and successfully transports the patient to the hospital where they ultimately recover and are discharged with little to no neurological deficits.

🔥 Burn Ban Lifted 🔥

The outdoor burning ban will be officially lifted today, May 3rd, 2026 at 8:00 AM. Residents may resume permitted outdoor burning at that time.

⚠️ Burn Safely
If you plan to burn outdoors, please take precautions:

Keep fires small and manageable
Never leave a fire unattended
Have water, a hose, or fire extinguishing tools nearby
Avoid burning on windy or dry days
Stay a safe distance from structures, vehicles, and wooded areas

🌿 What You Can Burn

🔥 Burn Ban Update 🔥

Lenoir County will also be lifting our burn ban tomorrow, May 3rd at 8:00 AM.

As outdoor burning resumes, please continue to use caution and follow all safety guidelines.

⚠️ Important Reminder: It is illegal to burn anything other than natural vegetation that grows on your own property (such as leaves, limbs, and brush). Burning trash, construction materials, or household waste is strictly prohibited.

Even with the ban lifted, conditions can change quickly — always burn responsibly and keep safety a top priority.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.
