Lenoir County Public Schools is happy to announce Rebecca McGann has been selected to serve the district as their Public Information Officer. She is taking over for Patrick Holmes, who held the position for a decade and retired in May.

"I want to welcome Mrs. Rebecca McGann to the Lenoir County Public Schools family,” Superintendent Brent Williams said. “She brings to the role of LCPS Public Information Officer a broad range of talents, impressive educational training in journalism, and a strong record as a broadcast journalist."

If you see her out and about the school district, make sure you stop and say hello!

Today is my last day at WCTI 12.

I wasnt planning to leave so soon, but sometimes the universe has other plans! I have loved every minute of reporting and anchoring here in ENC, from standing out in the rain for hours or covering a presidential visit.

You all are the reason my husband and I have fallen in love with the community, and why, even though I’m leaving news, have chosen to stay in the area!

Thank you for inviting me into your homes every night and trusting me with your stories. I can’t wait to share what’s next!

washed OVER vs. washed OUT

This is a perfect example of why emergency management/law enforcement agencies say it’s safest to just turn around!

The washed over road is Durwood Evans Rd by Chinquapin, the sinkhole is DS Williamson Rd near Kenansville Friday morning, 8/9.

Here’s something you don’t see every day… fish crossing the road!

The Northeast Cape Fear River is already in the minor flooding stage, sitting at 15 feet as of Friday morning. It’s expected to crest over 18 feet high this weekend/into early next week.

Duplin County EMS director Matthew Barwick says this could have significant travel impacts, making some roads impassable, so have a plan in place if you live nearby or planning to travel.

We’re getting a much clearer picture of the damage some residents in Greene County got overnight.

I spoke with the owner of this home that was destroyed and no one was home at the time the possible tornado hit.

B.Y.O.B - Bring your own Bag (and shovel)

The City of New Bern has provided some sand for residents who wish to fill a sand bag or two ahead of Tropical Storm Debby. These can be found behind the Kidsville playground off of Pine Tree Drive and Henderson Park.

On a first-come, first-serve basis!
