Estimated prevalence of Long COVID among adults in Colorado: 5.4% - 7.1%. If this estimate were applied to Elbert County residents previously infected with COVID, as many as 434 local residents may be suffering from Long COVID.

If you have (or even think you have) Long COVID and would benefit from connecting with a specially trained multidisciplinary team of pulmonologists, cardiologists and neurologists, post-COVID care and recovery clinics can be found at National Jewish Health in Denver and UCHealth Anschutz in Aurora.

This report describes the prevalence of adults who reported ever experiencing Long COVID.

Measles is extremely contagious. Among unvaccinated, 9 out of 10 people exposed will get infected. Infected kids will become very sick. For people without immunity, 1 in 5 will be hospitalized, 1 in 20 will develop pneumonia (the most common way measles kills young kids), 1 in 1000 will develop encephalitis (infection of the brain, sometimes causing permanent brain damage).

ECPH participates in federal and state vaccination programs focused on maintaining immunization awareness and increasing vaccination rates in Colorado. We provide vaccinations to uninsured and underinsured children and adults. Call Sara McIntosh at (303) 621-3170 to schedule an appointment.

Study: Alzheimer’s quietly ravages the brain long before symptoms appear. Scientists now have new clues about the domino-like sequence of those changes.

A large study in China tracked middle-aged and older adults for 20 years, using regular brain scans, spinal taps and other tests. Compared to those who remained cognitively healthy, people who eventually developed the mind-robbing disease had higher levels of an Alzheimer's-linked protein in their spinal fluid 18 years prior to diagnosis. Then every few years afterward, the study detected another so-called biomarker of impending trouble.

Scientists don’t know exactly how Alzheimer’s forms. One early hallmark is that sticky protein called beta-amyloid, which over time builds up into brain-clogging plaques. However, amyloid alone isn’t enough to damage memory, as many people with healthy brains harbor a lot of plaque. The new research offers a timeline for how those abnormalities pile up.

More than 6 million Americans, and millions more worldwide, have Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia. While there is no cure for Alzheimer's, last year a drug named Leqembi became the first approved with clear evidence that it could slow the worsening of early Alzheimer’s — albeit for a few months.
