How ‘bout them Ladycats?
After dropping Game 1 of the series, the Kirbyville LadyCats showed exactly what they’re made of by battling back and winning two straight to punch their ticket to the 5th round of the playoffs.
In Game 2, Kirbyville knocked off the Thrall Tigerettes 7-5 in an exciting matchup at Sam Houston State University. Thrall came out swinging early, using home runs from Reese Madsen and Ryleigh Jensen to build momentum and take the lead. But the LadyCats exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning, putting up seven runs on seven hits to completely change the game. The biggest moment came when Jules Carrell crushed a three-run homer to left field to spark the rally.
Calli Wiggins was outstanding in the circle for Kirbyville, striking out 12 batters over seven innings to earn the win. Carrell led the offense with three RBIs, while Emma Clotiaux and Emilee Denz each added two hits. The LadyCats also stayed patient at the plate, drawing six walks in the victory.
Game 3 was another thriller, but Kirbyville once again found a way to get it done, pulling out an 8-6 extra-inning win to take the series. Thrall built a 4-1 lead after big hits from Piper Hernandez and a two-run blast by Ryleigh Jensen, but the LadyCats answered with a huge fifth inning. Maddie Simmons delivered one of the biggest swings of the night with a two-run homer that helped Kirbyville jump back in front.
After Thrall tied things up again, the LadyCats stayed composed and pushed across two runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure the comeback win. Kirbyville showed incredible discipline at the plate all game long, drawing 11 walks, while also playing flawless defense without committing an error. Tatum McMillon led the team with two hits, and Simmons drove in two runs from the middle of the lineup.
Congratulations to the Kirbyville LadyCats on an incredible comeback series win and advancing to the 5th round of the playoffs!
