Imagine your dad’s main caregiver can’t come tomorrow. Maybe she got sick, or her work schedule changed. Who checks in on him in the morning? Who makes his meals and helps with bathing and dressing? Who knows which medications he takes and when?

Most families can answer one or two of these right away. The rest usually haven’t come up, because the current arrangement has been working and nobody had a reason to ask. A daughter calls every morning, a neighbor brings in the mail, and a son handles appointments. That holds up until one of them gets sick or has to travel.

Home care can be part of the regular plan from the start, or it can be the backup that’s ready when someone on the usual list can’t make it. We serve the greater King County. If you’d like help putting a backup plan together, call us at 425-828-4500.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We’re thinking of everyone it has touched, including people who are in treatment or years past it, and families who have lost someone.

If you’re overdue for a mammogram, this is a good month to schedule one. If you know someone who keeps putting theirs off, offer to go with them.

Most people who go through breast cancer have someone next to them. A spouse learned the medication schedule, and a daughter kept track of every appointment. This month belongs to them too.

From all of us at Visiting Angels Eastside, we’re with you.

A good caregiver tells someone what they’re about to do before doing it. A lot of care tasks involve touching someone’s body, and most people don’t like that happening without warning.

It’s one of the questions you should ask yourself before assisting with anything personal: dressing, bathing, using the bathroom. Did I offer a choice? Did I explain what I’m doing? Did I protect the routine this person already has? Did I give them time to do what they can still do themselves?

None of it adds much time. “Would you rather shower before or after breakfast?” takes the same five seconds as “it’s time for your shower.” “Blue sweater or green one?” takes the same five seconds as picking the clothes without asking. But one version leaves the person making the call, and the other doesn’t.

Skip that distinction enough times and “help me” starts to feel like “decide everything for me,” even when nobody meant it that way.

October is Health Literacy Month. Nearly 9 in 10 U.S. adults have trouble using everyday health information, according to the National Institutes of Health. That shows up in missed doses, medications taken on the wrong schedule, and discharge instructions nobody fully understood. If you're helping an older parent manage multiple prescriptions or providers, read the paperwork with them instead of just asking how the appointment went.

A lot of families don't realize how thin things have gotten until something forces the issue. We put together a short scorecard that asks the questions ahead of that moment: is medication being taken correctly, are meals happening, is someone getting to appointments, is there a real plan if health needs change overnight. Run through all ten and pay attention to any 0s or 1s specifically, since those are the spots where a little extra support tends to make the biggest difference. If a few categories come back low, that's exactly the kind of gap home care is built to fill. Call 425-828-4500 today.

Caregiving usually splits across a family without anyone deciding it that way. One sibling handles doctor's appointments, another pays the bills, someone else shows up for groceries, and everyone assumes someone else has the rest covered. We put together a role map to help families actually see it laid out: medical, financial, household, transportation, emotional support. Worth going through together and seeing if quality, compassionate home care can fill the gaps. Call 425-828-4500 and speak with one of our care managers about your options.

Putting someone you love into a stranger's care can be stressful. But a great caregiver should never feel like a stranger. Someone you trust, a friend, or even a part of the family. This is how our clients describe our superstar caregivers. So that you and your family can live your lives confidently, knowing that you're great hands.

According to the AARP 77% of adults 50+ say they want to age in place. But how do we get there? Staying physically active keeps balance and strength up, which lowers fall risk. Staying socially connected keeps mood and motivation up too. Both matter for how long someone can keep living independently, and both are exactly the areas where a little extra support tends to make the biggest difference. Call today to find out how stable, in-home care can make this statistic a reality for you and your family.

Does any of this sound familiar? A lot of what seniors want isn't complicated: to be asked about their life, to keep making their own choices, to still be invited even if they can't always come. Professional caregivers show up for exactly that, the daily tasks and the conversation and company that go with them. Call 425-828-4500 to learn more.
