๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ“š A BIG DAY FOR ONE OF OUR FAVORITE GIRLS!

Today marks the first day of Paramedic School for our very own Trista Thompson!๐ŸŽ

If you know Trista, you know sheโ€™s an incredibly hard worker, and we have no doubt that sheโ€™s going to pour that same determination, heart, and grit into this next chapter. Sheโ€™s already a blessing to our department, and we canโ€™t wait to watch her continue to grow and do BIG things with us! ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ”ฅ

According to her official first-day-of-paramedic-school questionnaire, sheโ€™s 22 years old, wants to be a kid when she grows up ๐Ÿ˜‚, and most importantly, she loves โ€œhelpingโ€ฆ PEOPLE!โ€ And honestly, that last answer says just about everything we need to know.๐Ÿ˜‡

Trista, weโ€™re incredibly proud of you and excited to watch you chase this dream. The long days, studying, exams, and probably an unreasonable amount of caffeine are all ahead of youโ€ฆ but so are some pretty amazing things.๐Ÿ”‹๐Ÿ’•

Good luck, Trista! Weโ€™ll be cheering you on every step of the way! ๐Ÿš‘โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Now go become the paramedic we already know youโ€™re going to be! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ”ฅ

Last week, we teamed up with our neighbors at Genoa - Kingston Fire and Rescue for some hands-on vehicle extrication training! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Itโ€™s always a pleasure working alongside these guys, and weโ€™re grateful for every opportunity to learn, train, and sharpen those skills together. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ”ฅ

The Kirkland Community Fire Protection District is proud to announce that weโ€™ve been named a 2025 Illinois Public Risk Fund (IPRF) Best in Class Member Performance Award Runner-Up in the Fire classification.

This award recognizes a strong commitment to workplace safety and risk management - but more importantly, it reflects the dedication our members show every day. From weekly training and equipment maintenance to looking out for one another on every call, our firefighters work hard to ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.

Weโ€™re incredibly proud of our members for building a culture centered on safety, teamwork, and professionalism.

Thank you to the Illinois Public Risk Fund for this recognition, and thank you to the Kirkland community for your continued trust and support. It is an honor to serve this community, and weโ€™ll continue striving to be the very best we can be.โ™ฅ๏ธ

๐Ÿš— ๐ŸšจThat old car in your driveway could help save a life someday. Every firefighter hopes theyโ€™ll never have to use extrication skills on someone they know. Thatโ€™s exactly why we train over and over again before that call ever comes.

The Kirkland Fire Department is looking for donated vehicles to use during hands-on extrication training. These donated cars allow our firefighters to practice removing doors, cutting roofs, popping dashboards, and working through the challenges of real-world rescues. Itโ€™s training that simply canโ€™t be replicated in a classroom.

Whether your vehicle runs or not, has 300,000 miles on it, or has been sitting in the weeds waiting for โ€œone of these days,โ€ we can put it to good use.

Ten years.

In the fire service, ten years means countless calls in the middle of the night. Hundreds of trainings. More classes than anyone can remember. Long evenings at the station. Community events. Funerals. Celebrations. Victories. Heartbreak. Through all of it, one thing has remained constantโ€ฆ
Jeremy Lee has always shown up.

The department has changed a lot over the years. People come, people go, trucks get replaced, officers change, and new faces join the family. But Jeremy? Jeremy is the stick-around guy. The kind of person who quietly keeps showing up, keeps doing the work, and keeps making Kirkland Fire better without ever asking for the spotlight.

If youโ€™ve ever walked into the station, youโ€™ve probably spotted him before you even heard him. Follow the glorious mustache, the unmistakable white Monster can, and the guy whose hands somehow always look like he just rebuilt an engine five minutes ago. If thereโ€™s grease under the fingernails, odds are Jeremyโ€™s been making sure our trucks are ready for the next call.

Heโ€™s one of the finest engineers and apparatus drivers this department has ever had. When Jeremyโ€™s behind the wheel, thereโ€™s a confidence that canโ€™t really be taught. Itโ€™s earned through years of experience, steady nerves, and knowing the trucks inside and out.

Heโ€™s also one of the most patient, kind, and gentle teachers youโ€™ll ever meet. Whether youโ€™re brand new or have been around awhile, Jeremy never hesitates to slow down, explain something again, or help someone become better than they were yesterday.

๐ŸšจNOWโ€ฆ weโ€™d be lying if we didnโ€™t mention a few ๐’๐™ฉ๐’‰๐™š๐’“ important facts about Lieutenant Lee:

Food doesnโ€™t stand a chance when Jeremyโ€™s around. Buffets fear him. At the station, thereโ€™s no such thing as left overs when Jeremyโ€™s on shift.๐Ÿ•

Heโ€™s our favorite โ€œshort king,โ€ which also makes him the departmentโ€™s preferred training prop. If someone needs to practice a carry, Jeremy somehow ends up volunteeringโ€ฆ or getting โ€œvolun-toldโ€.๐Ÿ˜„

And that mustache? We still arenโ€™t entirely convinced it isnโ€™t its own member of the department. We donโ€™t know what conditioner it uses, but the thing practically has its own glow.

Most importantly, when life takes a turn for the worst, Jeremy is exactly the kind of person you hope walks through the door. Whether youโ€™re the patient needing help or the firefighter standing beside him, heโ€™s calm, dependable, compassionate, and exactly who you want in your corner.

โœจJeremy, thank you for ten years of hard work, leadership, friendship, laughter, and dedication to this department and this community. Youโ€™ve left your fingerprints, quite literally, all over this placeโ€ฆ usually in grease.

Congratulations on an incredible milestone, Lieutenant. Hereโ€™s to the next chapterโ€ฆ and may your Monster stay cold, your mustache stay legendary, and your hands somehow stay at least slightly cleaner.

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿพ A Couple of New Recruits Stopped By!

The fire station welcomed two very special visitors this weekend for a photo shoot, and they couldnโ€™t have been more different.

Rebel, the Dalmatian, looked like he was born for the job. As the quintessential firehouse dog, he seemed completely at home around the engines, posing like a seasoned veteran whoโ€™d been riding along for years.

Then there was Biancaโ€ฆ a fluffy little dachshund, who is about as far from a traditional firehouse dog as you can get. But donโ€™t tell her that. She marched in like sheโ€™d been on the job for all of five minutes and already had a list of suggestions on how things should be done. Tiny legs. Big opinions.

Between the two of them, they posed like professionals in front of our Rebel looked ready to clock in for his shiftโ€ฆ and Bianca seemed pretty convinced sheโ€™d already been promoted. Either way, they both became part of something meaningful by reminding us that sometimes the most meaningful moments, are the ones that simply make people smile!

Thanks for spending some time with us, you two! Weโ€™d say youโ€™re both welcome back anytimeโ€ฆ but Bianca might start asking where her office is. ๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿค๐Ÿถ๐Ÿš’

Kirkland, you sure know how to make the 4th of July feel like home. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿš’

From the parade route to the fireworks, from wet shoes to muddy sidewalks, this yearโ€™s celebration was one for the books. Mother Nature apparently looked at the forecast and said, โ€œLetโ€™s go from sweat-through-your-shirt weather to somebody-build-an-ark weather.โ€ And somehow, Kirkland still showed up, smiled through it, and made the best of every soggy minute.

Our 1st Annual Kidโ€™s Water Fights were a giant success, and honestly, watching those kids laugh, spray, run, cheer each other on, and make memories was something we wonโ€™t forget anytime soon. Thereโ€™s just something pretty special about seeing a bunch of kids soaked from head to toe, wearing goggles, fire gear, and the biggest smiles in town. Thatโ€™s the good stuff. ๐Ÿ’ฆ

We also want to send a huge thank you to the surrounding fire departments who came to town and joined us in the parade. Seeing neighboring departments lined up through Kirkland is always something special, and it means a lot when they take the time to show up for our community. That support and camaraderie never goes unnoticed.

To our community: thank you. Thank you for supporting us, showing up for these events, encouraging the kids, cheering from the sidelines, waving during the parade, and always making us proud to be part of this town.

We may have had rain, storms, humidity, puddles, and weather that couldnโ€™t make up its mind if it was July or a jungle documentaryโ€ฆ but we also had a whole lot of laughter, pride, and small-town magic.

Thank you, Kirkland. Weโ€™ll see you next year. And yes, maybe bring a towel again. Just in case. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

RAIN DELAY! ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Mother Nature decided to join the Kidโ€™s Water Fights a little early today, so weโ€™re going to wait out the weather before we unleash the hoses.

When the skies clear and itโ€™s safe to get soaked, the water fights will ensue!! Stay tuned for update and keep those towels on standby. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ’ง

๐‡๐ž๐ฒ Kirklandโ€ฆ Itโ€™s fixinโ€™ to be 90ยฐ this week. This is your annual reminder that youโ€™re NOT tougher than the sun - even though the guy in this picture is pretty darn close.

Drink some water๐Ÿ’งWear sunscreen๐ŸงดTake breaks โฑ๏ธ Donโ€™t try to roof your house at 2:00 in the afternoon. And if your flip-flops are melting to the pavementโ€ฆ itโ€™s probably time to head inside.

Weโ€™d appreciate having fewer heat emergencies and more excuses to eat popsicles and twisty cones.๐Ÿฆ

Stay safe out there and remember your deodorant! Fun fact - itโ€™s more effective when applied the night before. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿš’โ˜€๏ธ
