Kirkland firefighters are on scene at a residential fire in the Everest neighborhood.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., crews responded to a home near Slater Avenue and arrived to find the house fully involved in fire. Firefighters from Bellevue, Redmond and Shoreline are assisting with the response.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

More than 18,000 firefighters are currently working wildfires across Oregon and Washington — including several from Kirkland Fire.

One KFD crew recently returned from a 14-day deployment that took them to four wildfires across Eastern Washington. Their assignments included building fire lines, putting out hot spots, removing hazardous trees and protecting homes. At one fire, crews worked around several homes as flames moved into the area, helping keep the fire from spreading to the structures.

Other KFD firefighters have been deployed individually based on their specialized training, working in helicopter operations, emergency medical support, communications and incident management.

It’s been a busy wildfire season, with Kirkland firefighters filling a variety of roles where additional resources are needed.

When communities across Washington need help, Kirkland firefighters answer the call.

This summer, the City’s new brush truck has been deployed three times through the Washington State Fire Mobilization Plan, assisting with wildfires near Winthrop, Chelan, and now the Ransier Fire outside of Yakima. The mobilization plan allows fire departments from across the state to rapidly deploy resources when wildfires overwhelm local crews. Most deployments last 4–7 days, or until the fire is under control.

These aren’t routine brush fires. Crews are responding to fast-moving, large-scale wildfires that threaten entire communities. At the Ransier Fire, multiple homes were destroyed within the first 24 hours of the incident.

While the City’s new brush truck is designed for wildland fires, it also has an important role here in Kirkland. Its smaller size allows firefighters to reach brush fires and other hard-to-access areas that larger fire engines can’t, improving our ability to respond throughout Kirkland.

We’re proud of our firefighters for answering the call wherever they’re needed and bringing that experience home to better serve the Kirkland community.

Smoke from wildfires can travel hundreds of miles, bringing tiny particles that can irritate your eyes and lungs and make it harder to breathe. Children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with heart or lung conditions may be especially sensitive.

If smoke moves into our area:
🏠 Stay indoors with windows and doors closed when possible.
📱 Check the Air Quality Index (AQI) before spending extended time outside.
🏃 Reduce strenuous outdoor activity if air quality is poor.
🚗 When driving through smoky areas, use the recirculate setting in your vehicle to help reduce the amount of smoke entering the cabin.
💧 Stay hydrated and take breaks indoors if you're spending time outside.

If you experience coughing, shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain, or difficulty breathing, move to cleaner air and seek medical attention if your symptoms are severe.

What are firefighters up to in between calls? Emergency calls may last anywhere from minutes to hours, but the work that prepares firefighters for those moments happens every day.

Rolling hose. Throwing ladders. Training with equipment. Practicing the basics. It all builds the skills, confidence, and muscle memory firefighters rely on when the tones go off. 🚒

Congratulations to Firefighter Allen, Firefighter Nelson, Firefighter Robinson, and Firefighter Pizzica on completing their probationary year!

Over the past year, they’ve trained, learned, responded to emergencies, worked alongside experienced crews, and proven they’re ready for whatever comes next. Becoming a firefighter is no small accomplishment, and completing probation is a major milestone in that journey.

To mark the occasion, each firefighter received their permanent helmet shield, a tradition that recognizes the successful completion of probation and their place as full members of the Kirkland Fire team.

Congratulations on this well-earned achievement. Thank you for everything you’ve already done for our community, and here’s to a long, safe, and rewarding career with Kirkland Fire. 🚒
