The City of Kirksville wants to inform residents that additional time is needed to complete the downtown pavement markings. Overnight parking is back open downtown from now through Monday.

Beginning Tuesday, September 8, a few sections of McPherson, Washington, Harrison, Elson, and Main streets will be closed to overnight parking so pavement markings can be completed. That will be in effect from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

Signs will be posted, so keep an eye out when parking at night. If you don’t see signs, you are OK to park there.

This work should be completed by the end of the week.

The City’s Fall Brush and Limb Pick-Up is scheduled for October 5 to 9, 2026.

City crews will begin picking up brush on Monday, October 5. Although the work is expected to take the entire week, please place your brush curbside by 7:00 am on Monday; otherwise, it may not be picked up.

Brush includes woody materials such as branches and sticks from trees, shrubs and bushes. Yard waste such as leaves, grass clippings and weeds will not be collected. Limbs should not exceed 10 feet in length or 18 inches in diameter.

Place brush in a pile along the curb or edge of the street, not blocking fire hydrants or sidewalks or extending into the road.

This program is provided to residents to clean up debris and prepare their yards for winter. It is not for contractor work.

ATSU, Northeast Missouri Health Council, and Northeast Regional Medical Center are hosting the Healthcare Expo from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 12, at 800 W. Jefferson St.

Community members of all ages are invited to participate in free health screenings and family-centered fun, while current and future clinicians have a unique platform to network with other healthcare professionals and industry experts. Whether you want to ensure your family’s health or enhance your patient care, this expo is designed to connect, educate, and empower every member of the community.

Comprehensive health screenings, along with those for dental and oral cancer, pediatric vision, skin cancer and hernias, will be available. There will also be a teddy bear clinic, with free teddy bears available for the first 250 kids, a touch-a-truck, food trucks and door prizes available throughout the day.

The City of Kirksville’s Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a special meeting and public hearing regarding data center zoning regulations at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 16, in the Little Theatre (Room 102) at Truman State University’s Baldwin Hall.

Because of strong public interest in this topic, we have arranged a larger space so all interested residents can attend and offer input during the discussion.

This meeting will discuss a zoning proposal for data centers. As a reminder, the City Council seeks to establish specific zoning standards for any proposed data center development within the city limits. Zoning and licensing are the City's primary tools for regulating data center development, as no city can ban businesses otherwise allowed by the State of Missouri.

This process aims to restrict these facilities to areas zoned as heavy industrial, where space in the city is limited and not adjacent to residential areas. Additional regulations will be created to protect community interests if any development comes forward.

The public hearing portion will begin the meeting. Anyone wishing to address the commission will have five minutes to do so. Following that community input, the Planning and Zoning Commission will consider voting to recommend the proposal to the City Council. The zoning proposal will be available on the City website as part of the agenda packet for this meeting, so residents will have the chance to review it before the meeting.

The City of Kirksville’s Street Maintenance Division will begin reconstruction of East Pierce Street, from South Halliburton Street to South Lewis Street, on September 8.

The street will have alternating lane closures or may have full closures during construction. Please pay attention to signage and personnel when traveling near this area.

This project should be completed by September 25, depending on the weather. This street reconstruction comes after new concrete curb and gutter were added along the street. Once completed, this area will have improved roadways and drainage.

The City appreciates the patience of all affected citizens during the 2026 street improvement season. For more information, please contact the Public Works Department at 660.627.1291.
