Truman State University Department of Public Safety

The Truman Police Department is a full-service police department, providing patrols around campus by vehicle, foot and bicycle.

The Police Department also works special events, which include sporting events, speakers, and other student activities. The safety of all members of the campus community is of vital concern to Truman State University, and the Department of Public Safety serves the campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing both emergency and non-emergency assistance.

Don’t make it easy for a bike thief! When you park your bicycle, always lock it—even if you’re only going to be gone for a few minutes.

🔐 Use a U-lock and secure your bike to a designated bike rack. Whenever possible, lock both the frame and wheel to the rack.

We are grateful to receive Autism Sensory Kits for use by our officers in the field. These kits provide helpful sensory and communication tools that can assist first responders when interacting with individuals with autism.

With the autism clinic located here on the Truman State University campus, we recognize the importance of having resources available to better support individuals with autism in our community.

A special thank you to Rev. Timothy Polley and the Autism Hero Project for helping make these kits available. 💙

We are excited to welcome a new class of incoming students tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 12th 2026. Here is some important information about parking and shuttle service to help make everyone's experience on campus safe.

The University will designate specific lots for day-long parking to accommodate the students and their families.
A map showing what lots are dedicated to long-term parking for families, and what lots are available to faculty and staff is attached to this email.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to carpool, walk, bike or make other arrangements in order to be accommodating and welcome students and their families to Truman. A complimentary shuttle service for employees utilizing the faculty and staff parking lots will be available from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. You will need to call 785-4176, provide your location, and the shuttle service will come and pick you up.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all Special Olympics athletes, coaches, families, and supporters visiting our community! We are excited to have you here and wish everyone a safe, successful, and enjoyable event.

Motorists are advised to expect increased traffic throughout the area and to use extra caution while driving. Please watch carefully for pedestrians, athletes, and event participants traveling between venues.
