Resharing a Central Consolidated School District post to families regarding March 3, 2026.
Central Consolidated School District is aware that a lunar eclipse will occur on Tuesday, March 3, beginning as early as 1:44 a.m. and concluding around 6:30 a.m. We recognize and deeply respect that for many of our Diné families and staff, this event holds significant cultural and spiritual importance, and that traditional practices require observance during this time.
After careful consideration, the district will implement a one-hour delay on Tuesday, March 3, to respect our community’s cultural and spiritual traditions.
Several scheduling options were explored, including delays and a remote learning day. After consulting with the New Mexico Public Education Department, a two-hour delay would be considered a half day and would result in a significant loss of K-12+ funding that directly impacts our schools and students. A remote learning day was also explored; however, given the limited preparation time and connectivity challenges many of our students face at home, it was determined that in-person instruction with a one-hour delay was the most equitable path forward for all students.
We want our families and staff to know this was not an easy decision. Out of respect for our community's traditions, the following accommodations have been made:
Our food service team has modified breakfast service so that meals will be simple and easy for students to pick up upon arrival.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to balance our obligations to students' education and our deep respect for the cultural values of our community.
