Overview statement: Extra Hands are a small group of people that are asking for funds/donations to help citizens of age 60 yrs or older and/or the handicapped that are asking for our assistance. Thank you greatly for any donation.
Extra Hands is a volunteer organization that was founded 7 years ago in Kirwin Kansas. We help senior citizens or the handicapped that are on a fixed income to assist them with outside work at their homes. Senior citizens and handicapped have programs to help with needs inside their homes, but do not have programs available to help with outside projects. Senior citizens take pride with the outside appearance of their home as well as the inside. We till gardens, spray yards, clean up debris, mow, w**d eat, remove snow from sidewalks and driveways, pick up prescriptions and groceries when needed in the winter months.
We started out with 26 residents of Kirwin that had requested our help, do to declining numbers we are now being asked to consider offering our services to surrounding towns, surrounding towns to assist them with the same services that we have been doing for the Kirwin residents. News releases featuring Extra Hands have been published in the Hays Daily News; The Phillips County Review as well as The Advocate in Phillipsburg, Ks; and the Wichita, Ks News Channel 12.

The broadcast featuring Extra Hands is an interview that features us while we were working, and it shows some of the citizens that have received our help.
To be able to offer these services countywide; as the citizens from the surrounding towns of Kirwin, Ks have requested, we need assistance/funds/donations. We need financial support to be able to hire help, and cover travel expenses, as well as repair cost to the equipment.
Senior citizens on a fixed income cannot afford to hire the people that they would need to care for their yards, sidewalks, and driveways during the entire year. The people that we help show their appreciation for what we do by giving us drinks, snacks, and letters showing their support. These are some of the articles and letters that we have received.

Dear Curtis, Re; Extra Hands,
As I stand here this morning looking out my window with the wind blowing through the treetops, shaking the leaves and the locust beans to the ground, I say Thank You to God for the “Extra Hands”. A wonderful group of people here in Kirwin who helps elderly people with their yard work.
The Extra Hands have taken care of my yard for the past 6 years. They are a blessing from Heaven. I am 89 yrs old and cannot care for my yard. They till my garden, spray the yard for w**ds and dandelions, mow the yard all summer, w**d eat, clean up the leaves and locust beans in the fall, use the snow blower to clean the walk, and shovel snow from the porch and driveway in the winter.
This work is all done without charge to me. You do not have to call and ask for help, they come on a regular schedule.
The Extra Hands do this work for many other older people in Kirwin. I feel blessed to live in Kirwin.
Sincerely,
Helen Cannon
