Throughout this week, individual recognitions will be highlighted to showcase the exceptional actions that represent just a fraction of the heroism, selflessness, and courage our personnel display in the community every day.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026: This year's continues the theme "Charge Into Fire Safety", reminding us that when it comes to devices powered by lithium-ion batteries, "Safe Charging is a Superpower". Keep these tips in mind when charging any powered device, from your phone to your EV:

🔋Always use the charging equipment (cables, power bricks, etc.) provided by or approved by the device's manufacturer. Improper charging can damage the battery and present safety issues.

🔋Unplug devices when they are fully charged to avoid damage from power disruptions.

🔋Always charge devices on hard, flat surfaces like a table or countertop. Do not charge devices on a bed or other soft surface.

If your device begins to swell, smoke, put off an odor or feel very hot to the touch, stop using the device immediately and call 911.

Canine Coursework 🦮

As part of our department’s recent paramedic preceptor advanced skills course, personnel had the opportunity to learn special EMS interventions specific to the treatment of trauma involving important four-legged members of our public safety team: law enforcement K-9s. Participants learned about unique medical considerations for K-9s and practiced interventions on a realistic K-9 training manikin.

Our special operations personnel recently had the opportunity to conduct joint rope rescue training with our partners at St. Cloud Fire Rescue at Water Tower Park, gaining key situational awareness on the unique challenges of rescues on these structures while strengthening our joint response capabilities.

Complex rope rescues like these are just one of the many areas of specialized response our special operations personnel are trained to respond to whenever needed in our community.

Congratulations to OSCFR EMS Training Captain Stacy Marquith, who was recognized with other local public safety personnel over the weekend by the Kissimmee Elks Lodge at their annual first responders recognition event! Over more than two decades with our department, Captain Marquith has shown exceptional dedication to providing high-quality EMS care to our community as a paramedic - a dedication she now instills across our department through her role overseeing EMS training for our personnel.

Personnel from Engine 63/A and Rescue 62/A were recognized this morning by our healthcare partners at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital for their outstanding work responding to a complex trauma call. Thanks to their high-quality emergency care, the patient was successfully discharged from the hospital days later with excellent outcomes.

Personnel received the Keystone Award from the hospital's Trauma team for exceptional prehospital interventions and an Award of Excellence from hospital leadership.
