September 4th marks National Wildlife Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness for animal conservation both globally and locally, while celebrating the species found in our communities. Established in September 2005 by Colleen Paige, this observance later added a second date of February 22nd to honor the late Steve Irwin on his birthday. The day encourages support for organizations committed to protecting wildlife and their habitats, advocating for their conservation.

For September, our featured Tag of the Month is the “Protect Our Springs” license plate. Florida boasts an impressive 700 freshwater springs, more than any other location on the planet. Unfortunately, many of these springs are facing degradation due to pollution, invasive non-native aquatic plants, and various other threats.
When purchasing the “scuba diver” plate. proceeds go directly to the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida. This funding supports research, cleanups, and conservation grants aimed at preserving our local freshwater springs. Together, the Foundation and its partners are working to research and test solutions that will help restore our most vital springs.
