We were saddened to hear of the passing this morning of Iris Larson. Iris and her late husband Bob were instrumental in building Osceola County's place in the tourism industry in the wake of the arrival of Walt Disney World Resort. Iris lived 98 eventful years and leaves behind a large family and a significant mark on the history and evolution of our county.

The Larsons were mainstays in the area's hospitality community for decades and the namesakes of The Chamber's former Larson Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognized those who followed in their footsteps by making indelible impact within the industry in Osceola. It was always an honor to welcome Iris and her big personality at our annual Spirit of Hospitality Awards as she helped us celebrate the annual winners.

Iris and her family also set an admirable example by giving back to the community and industry that made them successful. In 1991, Iris and Bob started a $100,000 endowment to support the college education of students seeking careers in the hospitality industry. They were also instrumental in pushing for the creation of the state Tourism Development Tax, which Osceola County became the first of the 67 counties to adopt. Deservedly, Bob and Iris were inducted into the Florida Tourism Hall of Fame in 2002.

We send our condolences to the Larson family, and congratulate Iris on a long, well-lived life. 💐
