Stay weather aware this weekend. Increase rain event through beginning of next week.

Update: 2pm: (Sat. July 18th): While the low pressure system in the eastern Gulf has been increased to low (30% ) formation chance over the next 48 hours and medium (40%) formation through 7 days, our messaging for east central Florida has NOT changed. We are still forecasting 20-50% showers & storms (mainly diurnal) through Monday. Highest coverage likely inland from the coast. Locally heavy rainfall remains possible and we will continue to monitor trends for localized minor/nuisance flooding, but otherwise just regular summertime heavy rainfall that we normally experience – nothing widespread. Other primary storm impacts continue to be lightning strikes and locally gusty winds. For surface winds, we are expecting southerly winds 10-15 mph and occasional higher gusts during the afternoons.

🔥 Wildfire Awareness Month

As part of Wildfire Awareness Month, Osceola County is highlighting the importance of preparedness, prevention, and partnerships that help protect our community before disaster strikes.

Following the May 5, 2025 wildfire at Lake Lizzie Conservation Area, hundreds of fire-damaged and hazardous trees remained near public spaces including trails, pavilions, and restroom areas, creating ongoing safety concerns for visitors and staff.

To help address these hazards, Osceola County Office of Emergency Management partnered with Parks & Public Lands, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, and Team Rubicon, during a multi-day “Blue Sky” training operation held March 27-29, 2026.

During the operation, Team Rubicon volunteers worked to remove hazardous fire-killed trees and debris from impacted areas throughout the conservation area, helping reduce future wildfire risks and improve public safety.

The project also served as a valuable training opportunity for Team Rubicon sawyers, allowing volunteers to maintain and strengthen the certifications and hands-on experience needed to respond during future disasters and emergency deployments, including here in Osceola County.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office further strengthened this partnership through the support of Sheriff Christopher Blackmon, who deployed the agency’s Emergency Response Team with equipment to facilitate the event.

This support significantly enhanced the operational efficiency of the training operation and demonstrated strong interagency collaboration.

Through partnerships like these, Osceola County continues working proactively to strengthen emergency preparedness while protecting residents, visitors, and natural resources.

🌪️ As Hurricane Preparedness Week comes to a close, the time to prepare is now.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Osceola County’s Before the Storm event. Residents had the opportunity to connect with local and state emergency partners, explore specialty response vehicles, and learn how to better prepare their families before hurricane season intensifies.

One of the biggest lessons shared today: don’t underestimate how long you may be without power or resources after a storm. Preparing ahead of time with food, water, medications, important documents, pet supplies, and a family plan can make all the difference.
