In honor of Arbor Day, Armstrong Conservation District delivered 3-year old Fraser fir seedlings along with fun activity packets to every 3rd grade student in Armstrong County. 🌲 A total of 725 seedlings and packets were delivered!

Much appreciation to Mr. Misera’s Natural Resources Technology students at Lenape Tech for packing up each seedling with care! And Thank you to Outdoor Discovery Center’s Program Coordinator Rachel Filippini for her help as well!

We hope the 3rd graders had fun learning about Arbor Day and we hope they enjoy watching their Fraser firs grow!

Happy Arbor Day! 🌳

Earth Day was a fantastic day to hold the 2026 Armstrong County Envirothon! 🌍🌞

Yesterday, the Armstrong Conservation District and the Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek welcomed 7 teams of students from Apollo-Ridge High School, Armstrong Jr Sr High School, Lenape Technical School and West Shamokin High School to the Outdoor Discovery Center in Ford City for the 2026 Armstrong County Envirothon. It was a day full of fun & teamwork combined with challenges that tested the students in 5 different environmental subject areas: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils & Land Use, Wildlife and the 2026 Current Issue Non-Point Source Pollution: It Begins at Home.

A huge THANK YOU to our generous sponsors—your support makes this event possible and helps inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.

Another big THANK YOU to all the Station Supervisors who volunteered to share their time and expertise for the day: Aquatics – Kristi Niekamp (PA Fish & Boat Commission), Forestry – Jessica Pierce (DCNR-Bureau of Forestry), Soils & Land Use – Jessica Schaub (Kittanning NRCS), Wildlife – Game Wardens Christopher Bence and Denton Schellhammer (PA Game Commission), Current Issue – Dr. Holly Travis (Indiana University of Pennsylvania).

And one last THANK YOU to ODC Program Coordinator Rachel Filippini and the ACD staff for all their time preparing for the event, on the day of the event and clean up after!

Special recognition and Congratulations go out to our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners:
1st place – West Shamokin Nature Nomads
2nd place – Lenape Tech Eco Nation
3rd place – Apollo-Ridge Norwegian Forest Cats
The West Shamokin Nature Nomads will go on to represent Armstrong County at the PA Envirothon on May 20, 2026. Best of luck!

Congratulations to all the teams for their hard work and outstanding efforts! 💪
