Today’s crew has run about 10 calls for services this morning due to storm related incidents. Many of these calls involve trees. If there’s wires involved, our crews cone the areas off for your safety. Please don’t move our cones and drive around them. They’re for your safety!

If there’s not wires involved, we clear the tree from the roadway so vehicles can pass through.

On Friday morning (5/22), both D shift and A shift responded for a building fire at Coastal Fitness. Fortunately this fire occurred at shift change allowing for 6 firefighters on the initial response, rather than the usual 3. Firefighters were able to make a quick stop on a fire located in a sauna.

Firefighters were on scene for a few hours to complete overhaul and ventilation of the smoke and gases within the structure.

On Friday (5/15), B Shift responded to Appledore Island using the Harbormaster Boat for a medical. This response was a multi-agency response coordinated with Stewart's Ambulance Service, US Coast Guard Sector Northern New England and City of Portsmouth New Hampshire Fire Department to ensure a the best possible outcome for the patient.

During this incident, a recall was initiated to ensure the town had proper coverage while the duty shift was underway on the Harbormaster Boat.

B Shift continued their busy shift overnight and into this morning responding to a reported structure fire in Kittery. This call ended up being overheated electrical equipment and the crew was able to identify the source of smoke quickly. Kittery was assisted on scene by Eliot Fire Department.

A firefighter is dead and several people are in serious and critical condition after a burning silo exploded at the Robbins Lumber mill in Searsmont, according to the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office. Click the link in the comments for more on this developing story.

On Sunday (5/10), D Shift responded for a MVA at the intersection of Bartlett and Haley road. The vehicle had rolled onto its side after leaving the roadway into the woods.

An off-duty firefighter was passing by and was first on scene and was able to make access to the patient and initiate extrication while other responders were in route.

Once EMS, Police and Fire arrived, the vehicle was stabilized and the patient was extricated through the windshield.

This response was a fine example of Kittery’s first responders ability to work together. All the responders came together and contributed towards a successful rescue effort.

A strong storm will be moving through our area tomorrow into tomorrow night with the main threat being wind. Please treat any downed wire as if it’s a live electrical wire and call us to check it out.
