Assistance League of Klamath Basin

Assistance League of Klamath Basin A 100% volunteer organization dedicated to clothing children and helping families in need in the Klam Operation School Bell is our main philanthropic program.

Assistance League® is a national nonprofit organization that puts caring and commitment into action through community-based philanthropic programs. The Assistance League® of Klamath Basin was founded in 1986, and is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to serving specific needs in the Klamath Basin. Your support allows us to improve the quality of life for people in our area through our philant

hropic programs. This is a free, confidential clothing service for all K-12 elementary, junior high and high school children in need throughout the Klamath Basin. Our program runs from September to March. Public school professionals identify children in need and obtain parental permission for the child to receive clothes. Most of the time, selection is based on children who are eligible for the free lunch program, or have had trauma events (moved; sent to foster care or other relatives; home destroyed by fire; or are homeless). School professionals then contact our organization with specific names, and we disburse the clothes through our in-store shopping nights or by vouchers. Adults who feel their children are eligible should contact their local school for information. We cover 39 Klamath county and Klamath Falls city schools including schools in Chiloquin, Chemult, Gilchrist, Bonanza, Malin, Merrill, as well as Tulelake in Northern California.

🚀 Happy National Sally Ride Day! 🚀

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Sally Ride, a trailblazer who inspired generations by becoming the first American woman in space.

Her curiosity, courage, and determination remind us that every child deserves the opportunity to dream big, explore new possibilities, and reach for the stars.

At the Assistance League of Klamath Basin, we are proud to support local students through programs that provide essential resources, books, and scholarships—helping young people build confidence and pursue their goals, wherever those dreams may lead.

Who knows? The next scientist, teacher, engineer, artist, or astronaut could be right here in our community.

Here’s to inspiring young minds, breaking barriers, and encouraging the next generation to aim high! ⭐

This Memorial Day, the Assistance League of Klamath Basin pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Their courage, selflessness, and dedication have secured the freedoms we enjoy today. We are forever grateful for those who gave their lives protecting our country and for the families who carry their legacy forward.

As we gather with family and friends this holiday weekend, let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember the heroes who never made it home.

From all of us at ALKB, we extend our deepest gratitude and remembrance.

🇺🇸 We remember. We honor. We are grateful. 🇺🇸

May is Small Business Month, and at the Assistance League of Klamath Basin we are especially grateful for the incredible support local businesses provide to our community every day. 💙

We also want to celebrate our very own store, Findables, which is much more than a furniture and home décor shop, it’s a place where donated treasures help create opportunities for children and families throughout the Klamath Basin. Every purchase, donation, and volunteer hour at Findables helps support Assistance League programs including Operation School Bell, scholarships, foster care support, and more.

When you shop local, donate local, and support community-driven businesses like Findables, you are directly investing in your neighbors and helping strengthen the place we all call home.

Thank you to everyone who shops, donates, volunteers, and supports small businesses throughout our community. Your support truly makes a difference. ✨

May is National Foster Care Month, a time to recognize the strength, resilience, and potential of children and teens in foster care, while also honoring the foster families, advocates, social workers, and community members who support them every step of the way. 💙

At the Assistance League of Klamath Basin, we believe every child deserves dignity, encouragement, and the opportunity to feel seen and supported. Through our programs, including support for youth aging out of foster care, we strive to help provide essentials, confidence, and hope for brighter futures.

Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness, a new outfit, school supplies, personal care items, or simply knowing someone cares, can make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.

This month, we encourage our community to learn more, advocate, volunteer, and help create a world where every child feels valued and supported. Together, we can help build stronger futures for children in foster care. 💙

Assistance League ® of Klamath Basin Celebrates Lithia4Kids Grant Award for Operation School Bell®

MEDFORD, OR — May 12, 2026 — Representatives from the Assistance League of Klamath Basin (ALKB) gathered today at the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Medford for a special check presentation ceremony hosted by the Lithia4Kids Foundation. During the event, ALKB was officially awarded a $2,500 grant to support its signature philanthropic program, Operation School Bell® (OSB).

The presentation was attended by ALKB members Martie Merhoff, ALKB's VP Resource Development and Cathie David, ALKB's Secretary and incoming President, who joined other Southern Oregon non-profit recipients to celebrate Lithia's commitment to community support.

The awarded funds will be used to provide new school clothing certificates and literacy support for under-resourced children in the Klamath Basin. ALKB's clothing certificates help local students gain the confidence and dignity necessary to succeed in the classroom.

We are honored to be selected as a Lithia4Kids Grant recipient that expands our impact, specifically serving vulnerable populations, including homeless and foster youth, who are navigating significant challenges.

The Lithia4Kids mission focuses on four guiding pillars: Educate, Advocate, Support, and Strengthen. OSB aligns perfectly with these goals by providing basic necessities and fostering a love of reading through book donations to K-12 school libraries. As an all-volunteer organization, ALKB maintains high fiscal efficiency, ensuring that 81% of all support received goes directly into its philanthropic programs.
