What’s Happening at Station 1? 🚒🚑

If you’ve driven by Station 1 recently, you’ve probably noticed there’s a lot happening!

Station 1 is receiving some much-needed improvements to help this historic station continue serving our community while accommodating today’s modern fire and EMS apparatus.

The current project includes a new station façade, increased apparatus bay door heights, a new concrete apron, and improved drainage.

The existing bay doors were original to Station 1, which was built in the 1930s. While they served the station for many decades, their size no longer safely accommodated many modern fire engines and ambulances. This limited which apparatus could be assigned to and housed at Station 1. Increasing the bay door height will provide the clearance necessary to safely accommodate today’s emergency vehicles.

The station’s existing asphalt apron—or “driveway”—is also being completely replaced with a new concrete apron and improved drainage. The existing asphalt was estimated to be approaching 40 years old and had reached a significant state of disrepair.

Station 1 underwent a major remodel and seismic upgrade in 2021. At that time, the District did not have the additional funding necessary to complete the bay door, façade, apron, and drainage improvements. Rather than leave these needs unaddressed, the District saved funds over multiple fiscal years to complete these remaining projects.

Throughout construction, crews continue to operate out of Station 1 and emergency service to the community has remained uninterrupted.
These improvements represent another important investment in maintaining Station 1 as a safe, functional, and reliable facility for our personnel, apparatus, and the community we serve.

Vegetation Fire Behind Home Depot Quickly Contained 🔥🚒 💦

At approximately 4:05 p.m. on August 27, 2026, Klamath County Fire District 1 was dispatched to a reported vegetation fire in the area behind Home Depot.

District 1 crews arrived on scene 4 minutes and 19 seconds after dispatch and found an active fire burning in approximately one-half acre of grass, brush, and low-level trees, with flames reaching approximately 20 feet in height.

Klamath County Fire District 1 responded with 15 personnel, including four engine companies and two command staff. Crews worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent further spread. Klamath County Fire District 1 was assisted by Kingsley Field Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Klamath County Fire District 1 would like to remind the public that we are still in fire season and fire danger remains extreme. Despite the approaching end of summer, vegetation remains extremely dry and conditions are favorable for rapid fire growth.

Please continue to follow all current fire restrictions and use extreme caution with any outdoor activity that could produce heat, sparks, or flames. Be mindful when operating equipment, parking or driving vehicles in dry vegetation, and participating in other outdoor activities that could unintentionally start a fire.

A small spark can quickly become a significant wildfire under current conditions.

Not to our surprise, the Klamath Falls community came together to meet the needs of affected property owners, firefighters and personnel during the Wrights Spring Fire.

KCFD1 is proud to serve such a community and to work along side and support our local Fire Districts, OSFM, NW Team 8, ODF, BLM, USFS and the many other agencies involved in protecting our community this summer.

On Monday, KCFD1 responded to a reported structure fire on Lincoln Street. Several bystanders reported that approximately half of the residence was on fire.

While responding, crews were advised that it was unknown whether the homeowner was still inside the residence. Crews arrived on scene within four minutes and immediately began applying water to the exterior of the structure to slow the spread of the fire.

The first-arriving Captain completed a 360-degree assessment of the residence and identified the presence of a basement. Identifying basements and other structural features early in an incident is critical to both firefighter and occupant safety and assists the Incident Commander in developing an effective strategy for the incident.

Firefighters then made an aggressive interior attack and extinguished the fire while additional crews conducted a search of the residence for occupants. The search confirmed that no one was inside the home. During the operation, firefighters located a dog at the rear of the residence. The dog was safely removed and released to the Klamath Falls Police Department.

KCFD1 responded to the incident with 16 personnel and a Duty Officer and would like to thank Klamath 911, the Klamath Falls Police Department, Avista Utilities, and Pacific Power for their excellent coordination and prompt response to the incident.

KCFD1 also reminds the community of the importance of immediately calling 911 when a fire is discovered and providing dispatchers with as much information as possible regarding the location of the fire and whether anyone may still be inside the structure.
