The Yurok Tribal Police Department is saddened to learn of the passing of Hoopa Valley Tribal Chief Judge Richard Blake. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, the Hoopa Valley Tribe, and all those whose lives he touched.

Judge Blake was a strong and tireless advocate for Native people, and one of the forerunners in raising awareness of human trafficking, strengthening the Indian Child Welfare Act, and advancing wellness and juvenile diversion efforts. His leadership and commitment left a lasting mark both across the state and throughout the country.

He was a valued friend and supporter of our department, and he will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with all who knew and loved him.

Today, the Yurok Tribal Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and the entire Tulare County community following the tragic loss of a deputy in the line of duty.

There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing one of your own. We know the weight of this sacrifice is carried not only by the department, but by the deputy’s family, friends, and community. Please know that you are not alone—your brothers and sisters in law enforcement across the country stand with you in grief and solidarity.

We honor this deputy’s service, courage, and commitment to protecting others. Their legacy will not be forgotten.

To the men and women of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office: stay strong, lean on one another, and know that we are keeping you in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

We are asking our community to please come forward with any information—no matter how small it may seem. Your help could make a critical difference.

We are working closely with local partners, maintaining contact with state agencies, collaborating with Tribal MMIP advocacy groups, and are in regular communication with the Pulikla Tribal government to ensure every available resource is being utilized in this effort.
