☀️ Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Klein! 🍔

It is a gorgeous Sunday across our area, and with zero 😬🤞🏾🙏🏻🫣 rain in the forecast, it is the perfect day to fire up the grill or whip up something delicious on the stove.

As you celebrate with family and friends today, your crews at the Klein Fire Department want to make sure everyone stays safe. Before you start cooking, keep these quick safety tips in mind:

🧯Back, Back. Give Me 10 Feet: If you are grilling, keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home, siding, deck railings, and out from under overhanging branches or eaves.

🧯Never Leave the Heat: Whether you are frying on the stove or smoking a brisket outside, stay with your food. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home fires.

🧯The 3-Foot Kid Zone: Keep children and pets at least three feet away from hot grills and hot stoves to prevent accidental burns.

🧯Proper Ash Disposal: If you are using a charcoal grill, let the coals cool completely before disposing of them in a metal container—never a plastic trash can or paper bag.

Let’s keep the holiday weekend safe, fun, and fire-free! What’s on the menu at your house today? 👇

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Weekend is Here! 🍔🏊‍♂️

As we honor and remember our heroes this weekend, the Klein Fire Department wants to make sure your holiday is filled with fun and zero emergencies. If you're firing up the grill or cooling off in the water, keep these quick safety tips in mind:

🔥 Grill Safety: Keep grills at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and out from under overhanging branches or eaves. Never leave a lit grill unattended!

💦 Swim Safety: Always designate an adult "Water Watcher" when kids are in or around the pool. Life jackets save lives—make sure weak or non-swimmers are wearing approved vests.

🚒 We've Got Your Back: Enjoy the long weekend, stay vigilant, and remember—your friendly neighborhood fire department is staffed and ready to respond if you need us.
Have a safe, happy, and meaningful Memorial Day, Klein!

🔥 FIRE FRONT: KLEIN 🔥

Our Klein Fire Wildland Team has been redeployed to assist the State with ongoing wildfire efforts. The crew, operating in Booster 38, is currently stationed out of Fort Stockton as part of Strike Team 168.

Over the last couple of days, the team has been assigned to Initial Attack (IA) operations in the Fort Davis and Alpine areas, where conditions remain active and unpredictable.

We are proud of their continued commitment to protecting communities across Texas. Please keep them in your thoughts as they support our state partners on the fire line.

📝 LESSONS FROM THE FIRE: Minutes Matter, Move Over! 📝

Earlier today, Klein Fire Department Engine 32 responded to an apartment fire to provide mutual aid to Ponderosa Fire Department. Thanks to quick work by Ponderosa, Harris County ESD 17 - Little York Fire Department and Spring Fire Department, the fire on a second-floor balcony was safely contained.

But today’s biggest lesson didn’t happen on the fire scene - it happened on the road.

It took our Engine crew longer to arrive than it should have. Why? Because drivers on the road would not yield or move over for our lights and sirens. Fires double in size every minute. So seconds can mean the difference between saving a home and a devastating loss. When we are blocked, lives and property are at risk.

⚠️ MOVE TO THE RIGHT FOR LIGHTS AND SIRENS ⚠️

When you see emergency lights or hear sirens, please safely pull over to the right and come to a complete stop. Help us get to your neighbors in their time of need. Next time, it could be your emergency.

🏫Lessons from the Fire🏫

Last week, there was an incident that's a perfect example of how being attentive can save your home. A resident was heading out for work early that morning when they heard an unusual "pop" coming from inside. Instead of brushing it off and continuing to work, they stopped, investigated, and immediately called 9-1-1.

Our crews arrived to find an electrical fire that had sparked inside a junction box. Because the resident acted so quickly, we were able to contain the damage to a single area before it could spread into the walls, attic, or adjacent apartments.
