Campground progress continues!
You may notice a wooden border along the roadway edge of some campsites. That is done in preparation for the road overlay that will be done within the next year.
There is a lot of progress happening and we can't wait for you to see the campground!
Both of the park's new playgrounds were partially funded by Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grants.
With that in mind, you'll see new signs up near or at each playground. For more information about the grants, check out https://mostateparks.com/page/55065/outdoor-recreation-grants .

Youth on spring break from the Whiteman AFB Youth Center spent their morning making post-breakfast pie iron treats. Pie Irons, also know as pudgy pie iron, toastie iron, and sandwich maker, have been around since the 1920’s but were not a popular camping cook style until the 1960’s and 1970’s. Today pie irons are not as popular as other forms of outdoor cooking but can still be found in campgrounds across the state. Pick yourself up a pie iron the next time you are in the camping section and see what “toasty” treats you can make! If you are interested in requesting a program for your students, group, or troop, please contact Chris Edmondson by email [email protected] or by calling the Park Office at 660-563-2463.
“To be whole. To be complete. Wilderness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from.” -Terry Tempest Williams, naturalist Ground yourself and feel connected before the coming winter weather while watching and listening to a hike on the North Loop Trail.
#up4014 is massive! We hope you got a chance to see it pass by in K**b Noster or at its stop in Warrensburg. If not, check out the schedule: https://www.up.com/heritage/steam/schedule/index.htm
This trailing semi-wooded vine known as Sensitive Briar (Mimosa nuttallii), blooms from May through September. The showy puffball flowers may remind you of fireworks but the leaves can really steal the show. When touched or disturbed, the leaves quickly fold up. This reaction is called seismonasty (“seis·mo·nas·ty“) and can be common among the Mimosaceae family this striking plant belongs to.
Take a break from the summer heat to Build Your Own Terrarium. With just a few items likely laying around the house, you will be able to follow these simple instructions and have fresh sprouting plants in no time.
Switch up your summertime activities by trying out Catch & Release Insect Style! Chris will show you how to catch, identify, and release insects in less than 5 minutes. Show us pictures of your netted insects by tagging “@K**b Noster State Park” or in the video comments.
Red-eared sliders are one of Missouri’s most common semi-aquatic turtles. With a distinct red or orange stripe near their eye, these turtles are fun to spot. This time of year, red-eared slider mothers are leaving the water to make a mud nest. They will lay a clutch of up to 22 eggs. These babies will hatch in late summer or early fall to start their life swimming and basking just like their parents. You can check any body of water you come across to catch the site of a basking red-eared slider. They are often spotted around K**b Noster State Park near Lake Buteo, Clearfork Lake, Sullivan Lake, and Adam’s Pond.
K**b Noster State Park is a tranquil retreat of open oak woodland with a few patches of prairie along both sides of the meandering Clearfork Creek. It’s a place for fishermen to wet a line, for mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders to get some trail time, and for families to spend quality time together. The park also features an oxbow slough, which has been officially designated as Pin Oak Slough Natural Area. Learn more about this park, visit mostateparks.com/park/knob-noster-state-park.
