Good Afternoon Knox City,

Power is RESTORED!! Thank you AEP Texas for getting the City turned back on so quickly! Thank you to Chief Candelaria and Mayor Moya for opening the community center so everyone had a place to stay cool. The cooling center is now CLOSED.

Information from AEP:

There was an equipment failure in the power distribution system causing a breaker failure at the North Substation(N Central Ave & NE 5th St). When AEP attempted to close the breaker and re-energize the City, the breaker wouldn’t stay closed. There is currently a repair team from the Transmission Division of AEP on their way to Knox City to repair the breaker. There’s also a Line Crew in town working on isolating the North Substation so they can get power back on to the City.

The Knox City Community Center located at 208 SE 3rd St is OPEN as a cooling center. Chief Candelaria and Mayor Moya are there now and will be there until the power comes back on. Please NO PETS, children must be accompanied by a responsible party.

As of this posting, Knox City-O'Brien CISD will remain in session until normal release times but you may check out your children earlier if you wish. The Jr High Football game vs Spur is still on for this evening at 5:30p. For more information check out the Knox City School page or contact them directly.

PUBLIC WORKS ADVISORY

Public works is currently working on a leak on North hwy 6 between ne 3rd and 4th. You may noticing low water pressure and this will return to normal as soon as the leak is repaired. Please use caution in this area. Thank you

Leak is fixed and pressure should return to normal. Thank you Eddie Blackburn for helping with traffic and bringing water. Thank you Alex Ledesma and Stephen Ledesma and family's for the water and help and Dustin Johnson for stopping and checking on us. KNOX CITY RECEIVES FAVORABLE AUDIT REPORTS

STAFF REPORTS

Knox City Council members received good news from their audits of finances for the 2024 and 2025 budget years. All members were on hand to hear Jason Young of Sanders and Young presented the audit report for both years, citing good adherence to the budget as passed and good fiscal stewardship. Both audits were unanimously approved by Resolution 1335.

All council members were present for the meeting held July 21, in City Hall at 5:30 pm.

In other business the severe weather siren has been installed and is functioning, the minimum bid for the 2012 pickup was lowered to $2000, as no bids have been received, approved the EDC 2026-27 budget, heard and approved reports from the police department 33 calls answered, fire department 4 calls, 3 trainings, office procedures and public works. The municipal court report indicated 8 contacts with $3034.50 being collected in June.

Council members discussed amendments on rubbish and child safety zones after approving the financial and accounts payable reports.

Of note are two grants in the works, KCVFD grant and the 287 G program for the police department. The fire department grant will be received later; the council voted to pay for the bunker gear and put the grant money back into the fund rather than applying for an extension.

Chief Candelaria reported that a Memorandum of Agreement or MOA with customs and immigration has been submitted, once law enforcement officers receive training they will be part of a task force working with ICE, with the grant provideing resources and training. Being part of the program, according to the ICE.gov webpage, benefits state and local law enforcement agencies in several ways—but most notably, it helps local law enforcement keep your community safe from potentially dangerous criminal aliens. Law enforcement officers will get access to ICE resources and training.

The meeting adjourned around 6:45.

At its upcoming August meeting, council members will be asked to act on an ordinance on utility easements and care of property.

Knox City Fire Marshal's Office and Knox City Police Department Concludes Investigation into Knox City Country Club Fire

KNOX CITY, TEXAS — The Knox City Police Department and Knox City Fire Marshal's Office with assistance from the Texas Department of Insurance-State Fire Marshal’s Office has concluded its investigation into the structure fire that occurred at the Knox City Country Club on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

At approximately 10:11 p.m., the Knox City Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from the roof of the Clubhouse at the Knox City Country Club, located in the 1000 block of U.S. Highway 6 South in Knox City. Upon arrival, firefighters observed a single-story brick structure with smoke venting from the attic space and immediately initiated fire suppression operations.

Due to the size and complexity of the incident, mutual aid assistance was requested from the Munday Volunteer Fire Department and Benjamin Volunteer Fire Department. At the time the 911 call was received, the clubhouse had been secured for the evening and was unoccupied.

During firefighting operations, the structure sustained a catastrophic collapse involving the roof and portions of the east and west exterior walls. Firefighters were safely accounted for during the incident, and no firefighter injuries were reported.

Due to the extent of the structural damage and the complexity of the incident, Knox City Fire Marshal Eddie Blackburn requested technical assistance from the Texas Department of Insurance-State Fire Marshal's Office to assist with the investigation. Following a comprehensive examination of the scene, witness interviews, and evaluation of the available physical evidence, investigators were able to identify the general area of origin; however, the cause of the fire has been officially classified as Undetermined.

An Undetermined fire cause classification means that, while investigators conducted a thorough and systematic examination of the scene, the available evidence was insufficient to identify a specific ignition source or determine the cause of the fire to a reasonable degree of fire investigative certainty.

This classification does not indicate that criminal activity occurred, nor does it attribute the fire to any specific accidental or intentional cause. Rather, it reflects that, after completing the investigative process, a definitive cause could not be established based on the available evidence.

The investigation into the Knox City Country Club fire has been concluded. Should additional credible information or evidence become available, the case may be reviewed.
The City of Knox City extends its sincere appreciation to the Knox City Volunteer Fire Department, Munday Volunteer Fire Department, Benjamin Volunteer Fire Department, Knox County Hospital District-EMS Medic 1 and Medic 2, the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the City of Knox City Public Works Department, and the Texas Department of Insurance-State Fire Marshal's Office for their professionalism, expertise, and coordinated response throughout this incident.

All emergency crews have cleared the scene.
Due to a structural collapse, the Knox City Country Club building has been deemed unsafe and has been taped off with caution tape. Please do not enter the building or cross the taped off area.

Residents in the area may continue to see and smell smoke for some time. This is expected as remaining hot spots cool.

There's a lot of good work happening around Knox City, and we wanted to take a moment to share a couple of exciting updates with our community!

🚧 N. Ave. F & NE 2nd Street Paving Project 🚧

If you've driven down Main St. recently, you've probably noticed some heavy equipment and crews hard at work near Bill Stewart Insurance. The paving project at N. Ave. F and NE 2nd Street is officially underway! Woot woot!!

These improvements are another investment in the future of Knox City, helping provide safer, smoother streets for our residents, businesses, and visitors. While construction may cause a few temporary inconveniences, the end result will be something our entire community can enjoy for years to come.

Please slow down, watch for workers and equipment, and consider taking an alternate route if possible while work is underway.

📢 Country Club Outdoor Warning Siren Project Complete!

We're also proud to announce the completion of the Knox City Country Club Outdoor Warning Siren Project!

This project has been years in the making and represents what can happen when a community comes together with a common goal. Thanks to the dedication of City staff, ACE Hardware, Lynn Electric, AEP-Texas, volunteers, and community partners, we've expanded our outdoor warning system to better serve the Country Club area of town and improve emergency preparedness for everyone.

This siren is more than just a piece of equipment, it's another layer of protection for our families, friends, and neighbors during severe weather and other emergencies.

Projects like these don't happen overnight, and they certainly don't happen without the support of an amazing community. Thank you to everyone who has contributed, encouraged, and remained patient throughout these projects.

Every improvement, whether it's a newly paved street or a new warning siren, is another step toward making Knox City an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
